GMC Syclone

Recommended Posts

I just had my worse, to date, late midlife crisis and bought a GMC Syclone. Always had a love affair with this vehicle it is so cool. If anybody is going to be at the Carlisle Truck Nationals it will be there with a bunch of others. 36k miles, totally clean. It is fast. Not sure I am liking the bed cover. Paint is almost perfect for the age. It is almost exactly the same size as a Comanche but has a much better driving position. I keep telling myself it is an investment as they only made 2,900 of them. Was the fastest pickup truck until the TRX came out. Held the honor for 30 years.

AWW MANN That's one cool truck.

I was considering a syclone and then I found the comanche, and I was like, I could get ~8 comanche's in dubious condition for one syclone. The decision was made off that. If I told you I didn't want a syclone, i'd be lying :D

Does the syclone still use vacuum lines? Does it have duct-tape electrical crimps? If the answer is no to both, you sir, scored.

Awesome ride man. It looks righteous. :jammin:

Sorry I have been so quiet. Been really busy. Finally got to work on the Syclone it is in pieces. Had to do the valve stem seals. Very common problem on the V6 Vortec. I am switching to E85. So 80lb injectors, TurboTweaks chip and a Racetronix fuel pump. Also converting all the hose to silicone. Syclone is all vacuum. The top is ARE from back in the day. Also had to do the heater core. Luckily on the S10 you don't need to remove the dash.

The Syclone only came in black except for 10 Red Marlboro edition ones made in 1991. They had a Targa top which was pretty cool.

You have to remove the intercooler and the throttle body to get to the valve covers. Inner fenders come off to get to the plugs.

The old exhaust valve seals were gone. GM never used high temp rubber on the exhaust valves. Fel-Pro now make some so I shouldn't ever have to redo this job.
