robfg67
1990 with only 30k miles, auto transmission with air conditioning but runs hot while under load. The temp needle has never run into the red section of the gauge, but it has come close. I ran Prestone cleaner through it and then flushed, with the same results. I'm guessing that a partially plugged radiator is probably the main culprit. I'd love to do the closed to open full conversion, but for the life of me, I can't seem to find a write up that everyone can agree on or seems to leave important details out. So, where should I source a new direct replacement closed system radiator? Thanks
Htchevyii
I'm running this one in the XJ and MJ with no complaints after my Cold Case radiator fiasco, (insufficient fan clutch clearance for off road). The Performance radiator is a single row, but thicker that most. It also has the fan sensor fitting. https://shop.performanceradiator.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=7809

Big_Mark
I bought a closed system replacement radiator from RockAuto.com it's working great. The only "thing" I ran into was the auxiliary fan switch sending unit thread did not match the treads in the new radiator, so I relocated the switch. Their website lists RNR NR78A as a direct fit for the MJ. I can't tell from the pictures if it has a spot for the temperature wire connection. I want one to replace the factory one without the cap. i want to keep the system closed. Am I seeing things?
Htchevyii
no cutting, perfect fit in the MJ and XJ. Yes, that PN has a fill neck/cap on it. I believe it's for a 92. Not much to the conversion, just a few heater hoses and the overflow tank.

fiatslug87
I have a CSF from Rockauto, perfect fit and no problems. However, the price has gone up considerably since I purchased mine several years ago.
Classy Comanche
I have bought 2 aluminum radiators from rockauto.com and they were absolute peices of junk. Neither one lasted a week. Bought one from Napa. Considerably more pricy....but damn it works so good! It is a plastic one. The ones that are junk are all aluminum. I believe they removed them. I don't see them on there anymore. However a open system is better. I have the links in my signature. Just need a radiator. Aluminum Cherokee tank from macs radiator shop and a universal plastic overflow.
Pete M
I swapped the later radiator into my 88 and changed nothing else. hasn't affected anything in the factory performance of the closed system. but it did make it easier to fill. for a full resto truck I wouldn't have done that, but that particular truck is just a wheeler. cruiser54
According to the photo, it does. The years of application are wrong though. Should be 87 to 90. No biggie.

Crusier, the NAPA link brings me to the model RNR NR78A? Is there a difference?
cruiser54
It's 1193A when I click on it. Take a run down to Napa.
