Replacement closed system radiator?
Classy Comanche replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have bought 2 aluminum radiators from rockauto.com and they were absolute peices of junk. Neither one lasted a week. Bought one from Napa. Considerably more pricy....but damn it works so good! It is a plastic one. The ones that are junk are all aluminum. I believe they removed them. I don't see them on there anymore. However a open system is better. I have the links in my signature. Just need a radiator. Aluminum Cherokee tank from macs radiator shop and a universal plastic overflow. -
Lol I have to say there was one morning I did go out to work. I took the MJ and it rained all night. So about 5AM I was out and ready to go. Started the truck and let it warm up then started to ease off. But when I started to ease off I noticed I wasn't moving. At all. Put my foot down a bit and I still wasn't moving but heard my tire screech for a moment. Put it in park and got out to look. My jeep got stuck in the driveway with one of its rear tires stuck between two slick wet rocks. They were like embedded in the ground but were smooth. So it was quite funny I got it stuck in my own driveway. I did also look it has summer vintage tires. So that's why it hates anything that isn't a dry road. Love my little 2wd though

Get a diagnostic on my MJ
Classy Comanche replied to Virginia's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Asheboro North Carolina. Terrible dealership. The main tech didn't even know a Renix engine. Believe me. The only thing I get from them is genuine oil filters. When they did to that track bar it was only because one guy had a '99 XJ and knew how to do that. But other than that I think all they know how to do is do tires, oil change and diddle around with electronic devices to diagnose and fix all this new crap -
I know my jeep was bought by my great grandfather for his wife. She was a small lady. She was able 5'1-5'2. So the Comanche was perfect for her. It was a grocery getter and church goer. So the 2wd was perfect. That that given time they had a old 70's GMC Jimmy that if they had to go somewhere in bad weather they took that. And then time went on, they aged and couldn't drive. So the truck sat. Then I bought it. Thats why the paint is so rough. Sat in the sun for so long. But yeah I think the 2wd was perhaps for....town running? And 4×4's were geared more towards farm work/hauling truck? I really don't know that's just a random guess that makes sense to me. I know the one time I did drive it in the snow I almost ran it into the ditch by accident. So yeah. No more snow driving for it

Well as a collective Comanches are very rare. More likely to see a Lamborghini or Ferrari nowadays statically speaking according to Google. If I had to say I would say 2WD's edge it out simply because everyone wanted the 4×4 option. And most 2WD's have been converted as well. So while there is no specific number I have seen way more 4×4's around/for sale. I know every person that has questioned me about my jeep says "man I bet this little thing goes good in the snow!" Then I reply my FWD monte does better than the truck and that it's a 2WD. They flatout do not believe me until they look under the vehicle and see no 4×4 parts under it. They swear up and down all jeeps are 4x4/4WD. Not this one lol

Get a diagnostic on my MJ
Classy Comanche replied to Virginia's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I definitely wouldn't go to a jeep dealership. The people at my local dodge/jeep/ram dealership refuse to work on my truck because it's a 88 and thr computer doesn't go that far. They begrudgingly put on a trackbar a little while back. But what made me pull away from them was when I saw them pull my jeep in the shop and they whipped it in tires screeching and almost kicked the back end out and hit a car lift. After that I told them bring my truck out I don't want my oil change I'm never doing business again. My truck is 35 years old and is now a peice of automotive history. It's not a beater toy! -
For sure. The fuel doors are absolutely awful. The people at the gas station didn't know what in the world was going on with me. Flailing my arms and swatting myself. Like I mentioned earlier one fellow came over with a newspaper and helped me. But yeah. They got me good that one time. I now carry a can of WD-40 because of it. I wonder if coating the inside of the fuel door with wasp killer or bug killer it would kill them if they made a nest in there again. Because man I tell you what. People thought I was out there acting a fool when I was in serious pain!
-
I've never had issues with bees. I did twice get the fire stung out of me from a small hornets nest that was right up at the top corner of the fuel door. So as soon as I opened it it crushed the nest and they didn't stop stinging me till someone came over with a newspaper and swatted them off. The second time it happened a few months later. I to get gas opened the door and the nest was above my fuel cap. I went in the store and bought a can of WD-40 and hosed that nest down real good. 2 or 3 got out and stung me. Maybe you could coat the inside of the gas door with some chemical wasps/hornets hate?

Are these Turbines worth it?
Classy Comanche replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
$550 for these wheels and tires? Are these specific ones like....limited edition or something? I on Google and saw a set of turbines for like $300 completely clean and shined like new. These are totally not even worth it. I'd be hesitant to give him $100. I saw on Facebook market place not to long ago a set of steelie wheels like that's on my truck that had big fat knobby tires and he was asking $750. And he said they were estimated to be used about 1500 miles. I'd either let the dude just sit on the wheels or offer him anything under $100. That's just crazy seeing the condition. -
Well guys I have gotten the truck. It is magnificent. Truly satisfied. Higley recommend this guy. I'll definitely be taking this to car shows with me
-
Yeah I'm only 22 and my jeep is 35 years old. So I was speechless when approached about it. Still makes me scratch my head from time to time thinking on it. That thing was rolling off the assembly line way before my time. I just happened to like the truck since I was kid and bought it. I still guess to this day that guy thought because of the name I didn't care about them? I really don't know. I feel people artificially manufacture issues about something that really doesn't concern them. Who knows!

Where to source the 940 Volvo Turbo Cap?
Classy Comanche replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Or you can go thr route of my open cooling system. Bit more expensive...but can can still run the same radiator type. All the stuff I have is in my signature minus the radiator from napa -
Pablitocustom on Instagram. It seems tons of XJ owners have went to him. A few even me went to him with MJ's.

Oh guys I cannot wait. I've been informed it's being shipped to me. This will definitely be tagging along with me when I go to car shows

Taillight housings
Classy Comanche replied to ftpiercecracker1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've seen some guys do the new gladiator tail lights which...look different. How in the world would one do that? Splice the connecting wires and cut into the rear fender light housing a bit to fit them? -
That dragstrip does not like Waggoners lol

About 2-3 years ago my great grandfather let me plunder and rummage through his outbuilding and I found a set of factory brand new MJ vent windows with the frames. I told him I found him and he just let me have them because he certainly had no use for them

Bump! Man. I didn't know yall had a Yahoo group. I was just browsing on here and went "hmm I wonder how far it goes." I hope a lot of the yahoo members made it because man this place is booming!

Got my leak fixed coming from the front of the truck. It turns out the little grommet where wires run in above thr fuse box it was trying to come in there and it was leaking very badly at the fuse box. Leaking from the top and leaking around the it and dripping at the bottom. I caught it in time before having major catastrophic electrical issues. However it's still kinda persisting just not as much. 100% convinced it's the bottom of the fuse box. I tested it when I got home Thursday and it was fine. Rained super heavy today and it was leaking.

That is true. I do love driving mine so so much when I'm not having it worked on. Ain't the fastest thing on the road by any means. But it just drives so good. I've seen one completely restored one for sale and it was like 17k. Everything rebuild and had 2,000 miles on engine and transmission. So. Justified in my eyes. I know the guy that normally works on my jeep says when he drives mine it's like a whole new world because he had big knobby tires on his while I got little whitewall all-terrain tires.

I've been browsing FB market place a bit and I'm seeing a lot of half finished projects and very rusty ones. I'm also seeing lots of like offroad builds. It's odd to me I don't see hardly any like....just standard road builds like mine. A mj is a mj! But I do wonder why a lot of people are compelled to take these offroad a lot. I see a lot of beat up ones of FB too. I almost want to buy them but mine already likes to give me problems which I fix like every other week

So. Update: I have switched the wet rags out from under the carpet where it meets the metal floor. All of them soaked. Every single one. I have replaced them with a single full dry towel. Last night when I initially pulled the carpet back there was small puddles but no rust. I have got that part done. The windows are down and it is drying as of now. However I'm still stumped as to why it could be leaking. I'm having no electrical issues. When a water hose is ran at the upper driver side corner where the fender meets the hood it leaks is it the fuse head that's back there in that area? I personally cannot tell. As mentioned above I am willing to try anything. I'm trying to make my last stand before I go to my last last resort which is selling. Lots of frustration, countless hours of sleep lost and many nights of worry have arose from this little jeep. I appreciate yalls help. I already have an appointment with Chevrolet Wednesday and going to the glass shop Thursday so I hope this week I can really chomp down and get these gremlin of all issues fixed!
-
I have now also found water running in at my fuse box! I found this just now after it rained and yes its covered up. What's the main culprit for that? I have also ran a water hose on the driver side upper corner and man.....it pours in. I am willing to try anything. The floor isn't rusted! Pulled the carpet and it was soaked under....but not rusted I have multiple rags under the carpet as of now. I'm willing to try anything. This has really thrown me into a loop because now I have to have my back glass repaired and my a leaking spot on my fuse box??? I can't keep this up. I'm going to have to call out of work tomorrow to get this stuff sorted and fixed. Would caulk fix it? Because I have ran a hose on my driver side up at the very corner of my hood and there it's leaking bad.

Here is my Comanche in the making! He has finally finished it with complications on his end. He should be sending it soon to me. I am so beyond happy and excited to get this.

I'll definitely run that by them when I go back this week. Out of curiosity would it possible for them to peel off the outside rubber peice and put new rtv on top of the old one and the put the rubber peice back on without the removal? I'm not trying to cut corners. I most definitely want it done right. I also worry they may mess up my head liner like rip it down or such. They definitely saw the window is bowed out. But when I go back I'll talk to the bossman that deals with the older stuff. The guy I spoke to when I went earlier worked on more home windows and cutting windows for homes but does automotive stuff as well. I just don't think he's seen a window like the Comanche before. Besides I know these guys are good. They have phenomenal ratings and had old cars curing in the shop. Also I finally got all the moisture out of my truck. Yesterday and Friday when I started the truck my radio wouldn't come on. It was lit up green but had no station numbers or anything. Then I drove down the road with my windows, back glass slider and air on full blast with the belt squealing down the road for about 5 minutes then the radio just flicked on. So the moisture is really scaring me. The steering wheel was like wet and sticky and the driver side window, half of the back and front window was fogged up. I've left thr windows cracked for the last 2 days and am probably going to leave them cracked until I get it fixed. For now it's dry on the inside and I have a car cover snugly over the cab so water cannot get in until Wednesday. It also didn't help after it rained the low was like 86 and high 92. Even when I opened the door I could feel the moisture. But now it's all aired out with a car cover snugly on top
