If you need to convert to a open system you need a Cherokee coolant tank from macs radiator shop and a overflow tank attached to it. But if your sticking closed do try rockauto. AVOID the bottom all aluminum rads. I have bought 2 and they are absolute Chinese crap. They all leaked in the same spot. Again that is the last aluminum radiator on the list. I cannot speak for the others on the list. As of now I'm running a rad from Nappa in my local town

Lol I came to this thread kinda late. I'm a newer member but I too live in North Carolina. I'm in the Asheboro area as is dasbulliwagen. We know each other personally. Cool to get to know some people! I didn't know so many Comanches were in NC yet the only ones I see on a daily basis is mine and his. So neat that others are around!

I forget where I saw this at but this was just pushed way off to the side like singled out at the junkyard. It looked to be mostly intact. I was just thinking of the show truck potential

Comanche reving high suddenly

Well. We don't exactly know what engine you have. I'll assume it's a 4.0 I had a issue with high revs. I would start my truck and it would be around 1000rpms and I would guess it would go up to around 1200 for cranking. If it is indeed a 4.0 you could try cleaning your butterfly valve in your throttle body. It may be sticking open or not closing all the way. It could be your throttle position sensor or idle air control valve. Me and the guy working on the truck chased this for a while so I just threw a new TPS, IAC and went ahead and did a new O2 sensor and she purrs like a kitten now. It also wouldn't hurt to check for vacuum leaks, loose vacuum hoses or disconnected ones -
just put down the hammer and back away slowly...

This was a trade in at my local Chevy dealership. My hunch is he blew all his money on the lift kit, couldn't afford tires or payments on it -
I'll go first. I purchased my Comanche on October 31st of 2020. The truck formally belonged to my WWll vet great grandfather that he bought for my great granny back in 1987. She always drove it and did errands in it as my great grandfather took his little John boat to the lake from time to time. He traded his 1973 Ford Bronco and paid for the rest of it up front due to his wife having difficulties driving it. She was a small woman and had trouble seeing over the dash/hood. It was a town cruiser and still is. Later in early 2018 she passed away so then the truck sat. Before she got sick it sat for a while because neither one could see very well. So instead of it letting it rot away he gave it to his son [my pawpaw] to drive every once and a while. Well it just ended up sitting over here which pushed me even moreso to buy it. I offered him initially $5500 for it as is and begged him to let me have it. He kept saying maybe or no not right now. Finally 2020 came around and he gave me a price of $3000 and that day I tore out of the driveway slinging gravel to go to the bank and get the money. And then from that point forward I've been having it worked on. Also in early 2021 we had a bad snow and wind storm and it blew a tree over where the truck sat and pancaked the shelter. It would have absolutely devastated me if that happened. But that's my story on my little truck. I would love to hear the story on yalls

I probably should have got them. But I was just trying to be considerate of the area since it was up towards the mountains and I know CC members are up that way and do check scrapyards. But Definitely if I get a shot from another I'll pick all the valuables my trunk on my car can hold and hold on to a thing or two and sell the rest here to ones that need it.

Yeah....when I look at how to's on YouTube a lot and they're like "oh yes it's just that easy!" And proceeds to show a newer version of the engine that's been modified and I'm looking at mine saying "well that doesn't look similar at all. How did they get that off when I have to remove 3 or 4 components to get what I need to get to"

I managed to find a junked Comanche about 4 hours away from me at a junkyard that had a manual window regulator about mid last year. Mine was stripped so they mailed it to me. I was thinking of asking for the tail lights too but I didn't want to be greedy and take them when someone over in that area may desperately need them. I always try and take what I need, not what I want

It's crazy how it was "unsuccessful" back then. Now people think they are great and they are. They just have old vehicle issues as any would have. The only reason back in '87 my great grandfather bought the truck was because my granny was a little woman about 5ft 3 or so and they had a 1973 Ford Bronco. She has difficulty driving it and seeing clear past the dash and hood. So they traded it and he paid for the rest up front so she could drive it with ease and because it was a much smaller vehicle for her to get in and out of. So when people joke and say "oh you probably granny drive it" or "it's been granny driven" that's a fact Jack! I just wish they'd bring them back. I don't think they will because I think somthing went on where they are having issues with the names Comanche and Cherokee because it's named after American Indians? I don't know if that's true but I did hear somewhere Jeep was having issues with those names

Oh interesting. I know I have some other thing engraved on the lip as well that is hard to see. I'll grab a picture of that too. It also again looks like a board with something in it. I've never really paid much attention to it. I'll see if I can wash them off with some water and make it more clear hopefully. I just thought it was kinda bizarre considering it gives little info and just had letters
-
I had no idea. It's the odd parts you can't find. The ones you don't expect and the ones you expect to be hard to find are all over the place. I just knew a few weeks ago I looked around and nothing matched or couldn't find anything. Crazy how expensive tailgates are
-
I wonder what tailgate straps go for? I found a metal mint set behind my back seat and plan to use them since my current pair are a bit rough looking but get the job done no doubt. I looked online and couldn't find any results that match what I had. I also planned to buy a spare tailgate to have on hand but yeah they are expensive. I seen one for sale on Facebook for 900 and I couldn't believe it

So last night I was out messing with the truck talking and I happen to come across like a metal plate under the bumper. It's weird because it looked similar to a tic tac toe board. It goes- A B C D E A. B. C. D. E And E on mine has been punched out with like....puncher similar to hole puncher for paper. It's punched out perfectly. Ya'll have these on your trucks or know what it is? Part identification? When I get home I'll grab a picture or two. It almost looks like some sort of identification plate or something screwed in

Awsome! I'm glad that is correct. I just get all kinds of confused when like I'm told yes and no it is or isn't a open system. From what I have deciphered how it works is the Mac tank is full and has the engine heats it pulls from that tank and builds pressure then spits back what it doesn't need in the catch tank then when there's room it'll take it back in
-
@Pete Myou asked about the pressure rating, I did too earlier on. Found this on naxja. Nothing like patrolling through 18 year old threads finding good info! I believe the Cherokee and Comanche run the same stuff. Just different body types with one a truck and other SUV https://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=59091

Alright so what I'll do is have my radiator changed Monday since my car is finally done. I'll drop it off and tell the guy working on it to fill it a little above half in the tank and leave the plastic one with a tad in it? I figured this would have been a open system? He says it is and others have too and others have also said no also. So I'm sorta at a loss. I'll try about half coolant next time
