  1. Here's an MJ I see quite a bit in my town excluding mine
  2. Poor truck....I would definitely say oil pan and cables with the radiator following super close behind
  3. Oh I have the oil changed in my truck every 3k really 2800 so I don't run over the milage. Thats also nice to know! I probably won't push it to 7500 since it's a high milage engine at 179k and does leak oil and needs a top off every almost 4-5 months. The exhaust and head gasket is on my list next after the radiator
  4. Oh so that's right at 7 oil changes. Very nice to know! I'll start doing that when I hopefully get over this problem. When I get this radiator in I'm not going to drive it as much and will make it more of my little weekend runner. Once this radiator issue is solved thats the biggest mountain i got to get past as of now. Fingers crossed this works. Also here is the radiator from napa I got
  5. My plan when if and when I get this straightened out is to have my system flushed every 2 oil changes. So about 5500-5800 miles. As of now I'm driving it with a small leak. I know that a big no no but I'm carrying coolant with me at all times. It cools really good. It's not overheating and it can pull from my plastic catch tank if it needs. But I agree when I bought the truck it still had the original radiator in it from '87. And it was all cruddy and dirty. At that time it didn't cool good but it didn't leak. Now it leaks and cools good. But I'll do a flush every 2 oil changes my car also had the original radiator from '03. And it gummed up on me on Christmas day and overheated. So now I'm waiting for it to be done with every cooling component being replaced since the previous owner put in that radiator seal or some garbage? I had no knowledge of it. But now I'm paying for it. Heavily. But I'll keep this thread updated as I go. My commute to work is about 20-25 minutes depending on stoplights. Also I drive very easy with it and let it coast down hills. I have no option to get to work other than my truck at the moment. This week I believe I'll be able to finally be able to put it in the shop
  6. No problem is not solved I'm waiting on my car do be done so I can drop my truck off. I'm hoping since this one isn't all aluminum it'll be the fix I need and won't have to get another for a very long time.
  7. @Manche757that's the thing I've bought 2 aluminum radiators off rockauto that are the "premium" ones. They are all the way down at the bottom of the list. For an I6. Ain't worth a flip so buyers please be aware. The one I have now purchased is from my local Napa. It looks to be the "UAC" Eliminator one on there. I have a thread going on about that. It's a headache. It's discouraging but I'm getting through. He was proud of me then and I'm sure is now. I've tied up.....a lot of money in rads already having 2 put in and leak going on my 3rd. I've been pulling out of my cookie jar but man, one day I'm afraid I'll reach in and get stuck or find nothing there. I'm just hoping 3rd times the charm.
  8. Yeah he was very pleased with me giving it the love and attention it needed. The truck sat for almost 4 years barely ran any. So I took it and did odd and end stuff to it. Still am. Fighting a what seems to be a Neverending uphill battle with radiators cracking and forming small holes on it. But progress has been made. He was 96 last December when he passed. So he got to see it fixed up a bit after it sat for so long. Even when I was a child I always told him I loved that truck and when I was older I wanted it. He'd just chuckle and tell me "maybe one day". Well. October 31st of 2020 was that one day. And he got to see it transform and life being breathed back into it. I'm even thinking of having it repainted in his name but fear about the decals not being available
  9. My great great grandfather said this one came with the rails back in '87. I have looked online at other trucks and seen a very few handful that has these. I have my window sticker that came with the truck. I'll look at it when I have time. He did install aftermarket fog lights which I know aren't factory. But that's what he told me just weeks before he passed away early December
  10. @FrankTheDogthat green Ford now belongs to my stepfather. He bought it off the guy not long after this picture. Maybe a week or two after? It's a super nice truck. A project at that but super nice. When I'm parked beside it it makes my truck look like a toy truck lol
  11. And something I noticed as well when I was backing up this morning. I sometimes have to bump the gear shift column for the reverse lights to come on. They work! But I sometimes have to bump it gently for it to turn them on. Anyone experienced that?
  12. @tugboat95we got another too! @dasbulliwagen is in my town! We're the only two cruising Asheboro NC. There's a older fella probably in his 80's that has one almost identical to mine that is mint and has turbine wheels and a bar in the back his truck with overhead lights. Ive only seen it twice and I want to figure out where it went. The thing looks like its never seen rain! But yeah we got another fella cruising NC. Me and dasbulliwagen are the head turners of town. People either don't know what our trucks are or do know and talk about how neat they were and how they missed theirs when they had one or loved the one someone they knew had.
  13. Reverse lights fixed! I had my tailgate down and ran into it hard not paying attention when I was on my phone like a dork. Guess there was a loose connection. I was texting one of my buddies then BAM ran right into the side of the tailgate winding myself. I then got back in my truck to go get groceries. Ding ding ding! I now have them with the power of being clumsy!
  14. Lately I've been listening to Metallica's Load album. I've nonstop had "Poor Twisted me" stuck in my head on repeat with "2x4" and "Ain't My b###h". "King nothing" too. Catchy album! https://youtu.be/htitm1X9_wg
  15. Here's mine. Paint is a bit faded but she's rust free and runs like a top! It's a 1988 Pioneer short bed. The green truck is just a cool dude that backed in front of me wanting to chat
  16. Any color is a fantastic color. If I find any trucks running around town o make it my mission to run them down and speak to them about the truck and try to get then here. As Pete said all colors are rare colors!
  17. Yeah I'm just now realizing my old radiator had plastic tanks. I'm gaining hope that this is what I have been needing. The welds on the radiator I have now and previously had may have gone bad. They may have been shallow welds at that. The new one I have now does feel considerably heavier than the aluminum ones I have now. I'm hoping that makes a night and day difference. Fingers crossed. My coolant is very clean and have added to it since I've lost some. No black/brown sludge circulating. I had it flushed I think 3 or 4 times when I had my reservoir tank replaced 2 or 3 times
  18. Update: went to Nappa and did a even exchange for the radiator for a different one that doesn't have holes in it. Instead it only has like indentations where the machine pressed off the metal? I'll post pics in about 9-10 hours when I get home. Plan on dropping my truck off immediately when I pick my car up hopefully this week, so I'll just switch them out essentially. Both sides of the tanks on the one I got from nappa are plastic. I'm nervous they'll crack and bust but I'm getting desperate trying all I can. From what I can tell in terms of how it looks it appears to be the "UAC" Eliminator radiator one off rockauto in terms of how it looks. They look identical. Update on that, does anyone have bad problems with the plastic hold tanks on the rads? Because my experience with the all aluminum was absolutely awful
  19. I'm 21 and so far I've owned 2007 SRT8 Superbee (parents made me sell it because I was 18 when I got it. Parents also hated how the engine would Tick tick tick tick tick tick at idle speed since it was a Hemi.) 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS (My first official car in HS that has been very reliable except needing a cooling system overhaul now. Is currently in the shop) 1988 Jeep Comanche (My 2nd official vehicle that I bought from my grandparents to fix up and use as a grocery getter/town cruiser)
  20. Huh. Pretty neat. All the colors I've seen on MJ's look good. It's unfortunate we don't have a build number on colors/trims from '86-'92. The only way you could even possibly get that info was if somehow you got a hold of the old AMC/Renault/Jeep production spreadsheet from way back when...which I doubt exists. Is it factory or is it aftermarket? It very well could be a aftermarket paint job done professionally. When I get off work I'll look at the plate on my engine bay and put it here as well
  21. I know they did a "Olympics of 1988" edition. Let's see what you got. The only Comanches I've seen in my town are red with tan and white livery (mine) a white with red accent, dark red with black and sliver livery and a silver with a red a black livery
  22. Well dang you learn something new everyday! For years and I do mean years I have always thought radiators did the- I called it the rain effect where coolant comes in through the top of the radiator and trickles down like rain then gets to the bottom then it circulates. I legitimately never knew the the lines between the fins were the tubes. I thought those were parts of the radiator being reinforced. Now that makes total sense and sheds light furthermore! I'll definitely keep yall updated on this issue I have going on. I'll check out that radiator they ordered and give it a try, then if all else fails I'll go for the CSM one off rockauto that is all black and the mishimoto rad last but not least. I'll keep yall posted on how things go! Goes to show things definitely aren't made like they used to be. This'll be my 3rd radiator I put in in the last 6 months or so
  23. Wait a minute. It doesn't circulate coolant? It's just the frame? I have always thought for years it goes in through rhe very top and goes ams down the radiator and eventually reach the bottom then circulate and repeat. This one says it is made in China. The fins in some areas are laid over. So I'll go check the other one out tomorrow morning and see what it looks like then if this one fails somehow some way I'll purchase the all black CSF or CSM radiator off rockauto that is all black with like a checkard flag on it. I never knew the cuts on the top and bottom were normal? I'm sitting here thinking coolant will leak out of them holes. Either tank is on the left and right side of the radiator. How exactly does the coolant pass through? I know it goes through the fins the thing that is getting me is if I flip the radiator over some of the fins at the bottom are pulled outwards like jutting out a bit
  24. Just left Nappa with the new radiator. I got home and unboxed it to have a look. It has two perfect cuts on it. Goes all the way through. What in the world are the chances!? I called them back and told them and they said they ordered the 2nd one. They said they really want to see these cuts. My luck with radiators are absolutely atrocious
  25. Oh yeah for sure I understand. It's a member on the forum here that works at a Chevy dealership that has been working on my truck. The radiator is the one thing that has been constantly going bad. He's done everything from my starter to much much more including doing the closed to open cooling conversion on my truck and told me where to get a aluminum tank. My hoses and all are good and when I pick my Monte Carlo up I'll drop my truck off. All I want done is to have him verify the radiator is indeed leaking like has a tiny pinhole and check for any stray volts. I also request a test drive and to verify it's all set. And the radiator I have now did fine until recently. So I hope this CSM radiator being sourced is the missing peice of the puzzle.
