Coolant unexplained loss.
Classy Comanche replied to Classy Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Went to nappa. They are sourcing a CSM radiator for me. I hope 3rd time is the charm. The 2 other radiators I kept buying were the "premium" all aluminum ones. It's the one that was last on the list. The nappa guy said he could only find 2 and I would give me a call today. When I get home I'll provide areas where it's leaking from. It's not very significant now. But that insignificance turns into a overheated blown engine. So I'll pick it up and have it put in when I can ASAP -

Thank yall. I'm definitely giving those radiators a chance. Though I got to thinking. Would electrosis....or however you say it be a cause? It's like where the radiator isn't grounded and has a stray current moving throughout it making it corrode? The only thing is is that it's coming from one spot it's not coming from multiple like it's eaten away in multiple areas. I know my coolant isn't acidic because my Mac tank isn't leaking. So it leads to me to absolute crap build quality or somehow someway I got electrosis or however you spell it surging throughout the coolant -

Sigh back on this thread again. These rockauto radiators are making me just about sick. Once again has another porous hole near the top of the rad hose. It runs down the fins as it's lime green contrasting again a very shiny silver. Can someone please point me somewhere that isn't rockauto that has good radiators that won't leak because they're cheap Chinese crap. This is my 2nd aluminum one from them and this is outrageous. If anyone has a place they ordered one from and had no issues with and performs as a radiator should. Please do let me know. I'm considering giving the "heavy duty" radiator a shot off rockauto before throwing in the towel. I really hope I would've had this issue fixed. But here we are. I'll snap pictures tomorrow morning when I drive. Seems the radiator they're selling on rockauto "fits" but won't function as it should I.E radiator leaking at the corner where the fins meet the siding of the radiator. -
No reverse lights
Classy Comanche replied to Classy Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah I'll definitely troubleshoot that. I work 12 hour shifts from dusk till dark. It'll be cold for a while around here too. The bulbs I think are fine since I have replaced at least one of them in the last year or so. It more leads me to the NSS or a bad wire/bad harness thats at the back of the truck. I can "think" all i want and be wrong. Knowing is half the battle. So ill start with the bulbs first and see if I get anything with them. The harness I'm skeptical about taking apart because I can't tell what wire does what or goes where because they are all black/brown from crud. The NSS I'm hesitant to touch since I read that it's got a metal washer or like a connection patch and needs to pried off with care. I also don't have a way to read volts. But I so hope it's simply miraculously the bulbs burnt out simultaneously -

Ah I see. So rockauto has the part labeled as NSS or "Range sensor". I looked and compared this screen cap to the photo above and the metal triangle-ish part is identical. So it's nice to know the part is available and can be bought IF needed -

Will do! Is the gear selector switch a common tail light no show? Truck cranks fine and goes into gear smooth. I do have a strong feeling this is indeed it since it's so oily and greasy in that area from oil and trans fluid over the course of almost 4 decades. Also what's the difference between a gear selector switch and NSS? Are they the same with different names or two totally different parts. Please excuse my lack of knowledge of this. Electrical stuff and switches of things like this are not my strong point. When I type "1988 jeep Comanche Gear selector switch" it gives the pictures and options for the NSS. Which sits up front of the passenger side transmission -

Alright so here's my fuses. Here's the harness I speak of. I found my NSS on the passenger side of my transmission up towards the front. Where is the back up switch? I've had reverse lights before. I replaced a bulb one time early early 2022 or 2021. All of a sudden I don't have reverse lights. It's also dead of night here lol. Also there's my NSS. Managed to get myself in a spot to see it -

I do not know what wire goes where and what does what. All the wires look dirty and one color from dirt. Is there a trick to taking the harness apart to clean it? Last thing I need to do is bust the harness and short something out. The harness I managed to find was near the rear of the truck that had I think 6 wires running into it. I couldn't see good since it was completely dark -

Oh I'll give that a look! I legitimately did not think of that -
Today at work I was flagged down by some kind people I work with and told me I have no reverse lights. I stopped by my dad's and asked him to look as I reversed. He also said I had neither left or right side. So this has me left here scratching my head. Would this be the NSS [Neutral Safety Switch] a fuse, or maybe somthing else? I don't know if any of you guys have had a issue with no reverse lights exclusively. I have tail lights. I have brake lights. I don't exactly know what I'm getting into here or if I need to be scavenging for a rare or unique part. The transmission is a AW4 Automatic transmission I6 4.0L engine.

Jack Instruction Sheet
Classy Comanche replied to Dandxj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah that's directly on the wall. I don't want to tug on it being afraid I'll tear it off or rip it. But I do believe it is a sticker. It's behind the driver side of my bench seat right at my jackstand -

Here is mine from my truck. It's in relatively good condition. Could possibly use this as a print or if I need a retake I could do that if needed or if this even works -
Help me identify this. What is it?
Classy Comanche replied to Classy Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That definitely makes sense. From what I can tell that Jack has never been used. It didn't have scratches or dents on it. So that is definitely nice to know! -
Comanche prices?
Classy Comanche replied to pago cruiser's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
12,900. Gives me a good good idea. Just a bit less than due to faded paint. Very nice to know! I was thinking it was like.....5k. Now I know I'm way off. Thanks! -

Classy Comanche replied to Classy Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah I saw the clip on the wall but didn't really pay to much attention to it as I was cleaning and scratching my head on what those tailgate straps were. I wonder why that little clip is missing on other trucks? -
Help me identify this. What is it?
Classy Comanche replied to Classy Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oh wow really? I dis some searches and couldn't find anything as to what it so I asked here. They were laying behind my seat in front of my jackstand. Had this truck for almost 3 years and never even attempted to pull the seat back until I discovered the small tiny black lever right at the driver's side and passenger side door right in between the seat cushion and backrest -
Hey guys so I decided to pull the lever on my seat so the backrest flips forward so I could deep clean it. Well to my suprise I found some things I didn't think I'd find. I need help identifying the silver part. I didn't even know I had the OEM jackstand for this let alone the instructions on the wall and still bonded with a strap. Any help will be much much appreciated. I have no idea what these silver parts are

Comanche prices?
Classy Comanche replied to pago cruiser's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah it was a low blow. I just shook my head and walked out the dealership. Just wish I could kinda get an idea as to what it's worth because dealerships won't even give me anything above 2k just because it's old and has rough paint. I don't plan on selling ever I just want to know just for the sake of knowing -

Classy Comanche replied to pago cruiser's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It's never had a accident. It has all the paperwork, window sticker and the old service card it came with. Manual too. It doesn't have any body damage whatsoever except faded paint from being 35 years old. A dealer at the dodge, jeep, ram dealership said best he could do was $1,350. Even though it has nearly full service records, driven easy and mechanically well maintained. -

Classy Comanche replied to pago cruiser's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah they have seriously went up. I've had lots of work done to mine and it runs amazing. Rust free. Dealers have gave me insultingly low estimates. The interior is like new and the paint is sunbaked because it's set out in the sun all its life. I've checked and my mechanic have checked thoroughly for rust and it's rust free. I am genuinely curious on what it is indeed worth nowadays -
It could be your O2 sensor? I had a issue with high cranks and idles. I had my TPS, IAC and O2 sensor replaced all in one go. And I had my throttle body removed and cleaned. It could be something totally different but it very well could be one of those? Cruiser has some excellent tips and notes that could help you troubleshoot

Leaking fuel filter?
Classy Comanche replied to Classy Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My way of saying I'll have it looked at and done. I will say I did crank the jeep up today and let it idle in place for about 20-30 minutes and it never started leaking gas at the filter. It was good and warm too. No gas smell either. So there's an update on that. I plan to drive it tomorrow and get gas and see what it really does -
Leaking fuel filter?
Classy Comanche replied to Classy Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Gotcha. Yeah I'll look into the lines as well. The odd part is is that I did go back yesterday and crank both my car and truck up. My truck didn't start dripping gas or smelling like it and my car started acting fine. Oil didn't look milky or anything. So since it's above freezing now what I'll do is add some of that green 50/50 antifreeze stuff I have and crank it and let it run. Nothing was grinding or scraping either. Nothing wet either, nothing like my jeep where I've seen the whole engine wet. But absolutely I'll look into various lines for my jeep and I'll certainly keep an eye on the fuel filter because it didn't leak when it was idling like it did earlier that morning -

My Monte Carlo was the one that has water in it from summer. My Comanche is leaking gas. I also have nowhere to put it inside as I do not own a inside garage. I do not believe the block is cracked because nothing on the motor was wet. However the back was steaming and the front was not. The rad hoses didn't feel warm either. But the jeep is running 50/50 fram ready to use green stuff. My car if I recall is running water. I so hope my Monte Carlo isn't cracked...it's such a good car
