'88 Pioneer high Rev when cranking?
Classy Comanche replied to Classy Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oh okay! I'll definitely take a look at that. I'll look at my vacuum lines as well. May be a dumb question which isn't related to this but when I hit the brake, I hear hissing. I have a small vacuum leak somewhere. But what I'm asking is is that vacuum leak linked to that high crank? It only hisses if I press the brake. I read up that vacuum leaks cause high idles since the engine is getting more O2 than it needs before the O2 sensor tells it to quiet down. I think what I'm trying to ask is the brake vacuum line connected to the vacuum line in the engine. Probably a dumb question I know but I didn't know if my vacuum lines dealing with my brakes are linked to the vacuum lines in my engine like the vacuum line harness -

Yeah his truck is a inline 4 and he works on mine by having me bring it by the shop. He's refreshed so much on it including my what was cooling nightmare, very cool dude and can't thank him enough for helping me and continuing to do so, same for you fellas! -
'88 Pioneer high Rev when cranking?
Classy Comanche replied to Classy Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm nervous about taking things apart art doing things as such. Afraid I'll break somthing or mess it up. The guy that's working on my truck is a member on here and does absolutely fantastic and I trust him greatly. I know they aren't difficult motors to work on. It's just I trust a mechanic moreso than me trying and breaking somthing by sheer accident -

'88 Pioneer high Rev when cranking?
Classy Comanche replied to Classy Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ohh hm. Well it could be the flap in the throttle body sticking open or coated in carbon [I am not a mechanic I'm just taking a very educated guess] or I have been talking to the mechanic working on mine and he said it could be the computer having no memory of the last start up making it do a whole new fuel mix/ fuel output and throttle control. Nice to know I'm not the only one seeing this going on. Sounds harmless but I figured I'd ask just to make sure -
'88 Pioneer high Rev when cranking?
Classy Comanche replied to Classy Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah. Does it every once and when while. It's very uncommon but Does it moreso when it's cold outside. Just sort of odd to me -
So I've noticed very uncommonly my truck will high Rev for about 2 or 3 seconds when I crank it. Runs good, performs good and drives good. Just a bit stumped on why it's doing it. It did it today leaving work. Is their anything in particular I need to have looked at? Or is the flap in the throttle body sticking occasionally? Or is it something along the lines of the computer in the engine having no memory and starting over with idle control and fuel mixture? I don't know if you guys have had this happen or if it's a major thing really. Thank you!

Ah! So they are noisy in general. Yep that I was curious about. Cool deal! Thank you! I wasn't sure if I had something going on and if mine happened to be loud for no reason. It's nice to know all of these tick and make racket just simply running and working. Family also pointed out it was loud compared to engines today. So that made me super curious. As always you fellas are a tremendous help!

Yeah I got a oval and square key too. Square for ignition and round for doors and glove box [never locked it, cannot confirm it it works on it] but man....when I bought this truck from my grandfather when I was 19 this confused me so much....never had vehicle that required two keys before. Took a while to get used to. But with time it became 2nd nature. He also gave me a whole new spare set?? I have the set I use and I have another that also does work, just have them in case somthing happens. Very cool to see this was something they did from the factory!
-
Yeah. It's just loud clicking outside the vehicle. Inside you can just hear the muffler and hum of the engine. I do get my oil changed every 3000 miles. But I actually do it at 2700 since the motors are old. And trying to do preventive maintenance and help it. I've actually never really heard another straight 6 4.0 before other than mine. So I haven't been really able to compare except to my car. Which is about 20 years newer and super quiet. But I'm glad everything sounds good! It's just that muffler. I need it swapped out so it doesn't sound like I straight piped it on purpose still the same factor OEM muffler off the assembly line!

Ah! Okay. I just didn't know. It's just a good and bad thing having a mechanic ear. Some days I can hear the coolant and fluid rushing through my engine and it drives me crazy. I just didn't know if these little 4.0's are moderately noisy. I know my lifters are loud. As I give it gas it does speed up then eventually goes away. But yeah. I'll look in that direction. It runs good. Just didn't know if it sounded okay despite it being a noisy little engine. My '03 Monte Carlo SS is 2 times quieter than this, and it's a bigger V6

Yeah I'm cursed with a mechanics ear too. Aggravating but helpful. Any small pop, creak or noise I hear I immediately investigate. Here I showed to videos. Also kinda wondering if it sounds okay, apologies for the loud muffler, it's literally rusted in half about where the bed is. But that ticking. That the lifters? Also this morning I cranked it and it did I high Rev for about 2 seconds then settled down. It was in the upper 60's today. It rarely does it except on chillier weather. Anyone else have that occurrence or is this something I eventually need to look into, with the every once on a blue moon high crank rev. Like I said. Rarely does it and does it in comfortable or chilly weather. 20220817_193105.mp4 20220817_193048.mp4 20220817_193105.mp4 20220817_193048.mp4

Coolant overflow reservoir question
Classy Comanche replied to Classy Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah, actually your right. Rad cap is the one where controls it. 16lbs it says. But yeah I'll fill it and keep an eye on it. All runs good. Just need to get this small thing figured out for good is all, thanks!! -
Coolant overflow reservoir question
Classy Comanche replied to Classy Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oh I didn't know if a valve was stuck open where it controls my coolant flow, and I'll do halfway and see what it does, also what does SWAG mean? I know I went from a closed to open system so yeah the jeep manufacturer truly has no clue where the level should be albeit this should work -
Coolant overflow reservoir question
Classy Comanche replied to Classy Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Can do! I'm taking it to the shop for a super thorough look over at my seals and valves is one stuck open [if it has any.] But yeah. It's just strange. It drops lower than what I had originally and spits it eight back up while hot. Kinda makes me wonder if it's sitting in my radiator -
Okay so I have swapped over to the Mac tank and had a overflow tank installed as well, the square plastic one. So I have come into a "problem" maybe not one at all, maybe just me not knowing, but my question is: Can this plastic overflow tank stay empty. So none of these pictures are as of recent. These were taken seven weeks back. I seem to lose coolant out of this tank when I park it. It normally spits it back up as I drive and it heat back up. But then after it sets for 4 hours or more the coolant inside the small plastic tank begins to drop below the "cool" mark on it. And as I drive more and more it gets lower and lower. I'm not leaking it onto the floor. No blown gasket. Anything I need to check or have checked? It just seemingly disappears and is spit back up when I drive. What I'm scared of is running it with this smaller tank empty and it suck air into the cooling system messing something up. Again I'm just being cautious because I've scratched my head for a bit about this. Engine cools so much better since this installation. Just curious on what's going on here

Was actually driving home yesterday and heard this fading in and out on my radio. Was listening to rock then this was fading through, definitely caught my attention and turned it to the country radio station. Definitely made me smile, figured it would you guys too. Not a country person but this here is actually pretty good. https://youtu.be/0VdfttcOxME Its a Jeep Thing- Paul Randy Mingo

Ah ha! I see, yeah. Everything in my signature is straight off my window sticker typed on here. Anytime I was asked my tire size I'd just say "small" because these wheels and tires and tires are small compared to wheels and tires these days....learn something new everyday! Thank yall. Going to buy these seat covers probably Friday -
Looking for good bench seat cover
Classy Comanche replied to Whitaker717's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I....actually do not know, I actually pulled it off my original window sticker from when it was bought in '87 *shrugs* I do have small tires and I do get very good gas mileage in it. Don't know much about tires admittedly. I do have white walls put on, had them since I bought it in 2020 -
