boxyjeep Posted March 6, 2023 Share Posted March 6, 2023 My truck is finally making progress towards being off-road worthy and I'd like to get some protection before bashing up my freshly-painted rockers. I bought a set of sliders from JCR a few years ago but couldn't believe how bad the fitment was around the pinch seam, so I returned them. From what I can see now, it looks like only Dirtbound and RockyRoad (also resold through 12 Degree North) are the only options out there. I prefer the look of the RockyRoad Super Sliders (rectangular tube under rocker, with angled round tube sticking out). Anyone running these? How did you like the mount? Any pics you can share? Got these for $150 like 10 years ago at the Puyallup 4WD swap meet. I know they still make them but they don’t stock Comanche Length sliders. Just call them with a measurement. Made 1/4” frame plates inside and outside to weld the rock sliders to. Sleeved all the bolt holes. Really though there are a number of other vendors with MJ sliders. Google just that "Jeep Comanche rock slider" and ignore the jcwhitney, jeggs, Summit racing links/adds as those are more than likely the side step or running board type. Stinky fab racing I'm pretty sure is still making them? Pro Tip: Tractor Supply sells grade 8 hardware by the pound. Throw all your nuts, bolts, washers in a bag and weigh them. Best deal I've found. That said I can't imagine why somebody would use ELEVEN fasteners per mount instead of just welding the plates on. Certainly can't be for convenience at that point. ThatJeepGuy Posted March 8, 2023 Share Posted March 8, 2023 Tractor supply is a very good point, the size of those bolts gave me flashbacks to replacing factory control arm bolts with grade 8 hardware from ACE hardware, unfortunately the only place that carried 9/16's bolts long enough for the job charged by the piece. I wanted to be able to remove them if needed, but strong enough to build an Exo cage off of. I plated the frame on another one of my MJs and wanted to try another route for this truck. I know how thin the Unibody is on the MJ, and I wanted as much surface area dispersing the punishment these sliders go through as possible. I researched how everyone was mounting theirs sliders and didn’t like any thing I was seeing and came up with that. I try to way overbuild anything I make because I tend to be able to find weak links occasionally. And I’ll put the strength of these up against any out there. PS It was way over $100 worth of hardware in 2019 money and does the factory spring mount bolt really count as 11? Or was it just a bonus? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
