Rear window - One piece vs Slider

Recommended Posts

I have recently acquired an excellent condition one piece rear window. I already had an extra very good condition sliding rear window that even has the pull tab/latch intact.

My MJ doesn't have AC (one day...) and the current sliding rear window is stuck and the latch is broken, so I basically have a one piece as is.

One of these will be going in my MJ and the other will probably be for sale. I wanted to weigh in on everyone's opinion first tho, pros and cons.

I like sliding rear windows in trucks on general principle.

Particularly since I drove a 1986 Ranger that had no AC for years back in Texas.

Fortunately my dad had put a sliding rear window in it before passing it down to me and I don't think I'd have survived without "360 air".

And I'm glad my MJ came with a sliding rear because the AC recently quit working.

Anyway, in your case I'd try to remedy the one already in the Jeep first, and hoard those spares just in case.

I love the slider in mine, use it almost everyday along with the vent windows even though I have AC.  AC is reserved for the really hot days when the temp is in the high 80s.

The slider is also nice if you have people riding in the bed, which I frequently have.

Pro tip, put like one drop of a silicone lubricant in the bottom track, after a few uses it should slide super well.

Dude I put some spray silicone in the track, then used a flathead to pry the slider open, now it works perfectly! Go figure after almost 6 years of owning this thing it turned out to be simple!

Now my next question is how hard is it to swap out the middle slider glass? I would like to swap mine out because its missing the latch and has a deep scratch in the glass.
