TheDude
The end of my tail pipe fell off the Comanche today. So I thought, oh no big deal, a new one is like $40.I've searched both Walker 47605 and AP 74622 part numbers and no one has any in stock anywhere including online..Super sad to see them stop making such essential parts for out trucks.I'll have to have my boss help me make a new one with our exhaust bender but most people don't have that option unfortunately. Pete M
that sucks. at least that particular part can be fabbed by a muffler shop, but it's a trend. thankfully we are also experiencing an uptick in certain parts availability (like the taillights). so it's not all bad. gogmorgo
About a year ago my shortbed’s tailpipe fell off, and my muffler’s decided to follow suit. So, a couple weeks ago I randomly checked with one of the parts suppliers we use at work and they had two of the long bed (47605) listed as in stock at two separate warehouses, and one shortbed (46701) so I called and ordered it. I got a phone call back the next day that their warehouse couldn’t find it, but they found another one, it would just take an extra day. I didn’t think too much of that. Normally when I order through them they send it out on their parts run, but apparently they quit coming to my town because of winter road conditions. After doing the 70-mile (one way) drive out there and then back again I can’t really blame them. So then I get there, and they’re training someone new on the till who managed to somehow screw something up that took about 15 minutes to resolve. So by the time they brought my stuff out, I wasn’t looking too close at part numbers. The pipe seemed longer than I expect, but I stuffed it in the ZJ and drove home. Fast forward to last night I go to install it, and… um… Well that ain’t gonna work. Turns out I ended up with the 47605. Oops. I called them back this morning, and they were going to call me back with an ETA on the 46701, but they haven’t yet. They were listing one of each this morning, and their inventory on the 46701 has now dropped to zero. So hopefully I’m getting a call tomorrow or Wednesday saying it arrived. I’m hanging onto the “wrong” one cause i’ll need it soon enough for my long bed. When you can see it, it’s a gorgeous drive through the Rockies, just treacherous. And I’m not super thrilled about having to make it twice.

FrankTheDog
Pete is a flatlander! Lol Those aren’t what I consider “bad” road conditions. Although the weather at that altitude can turn bad real fast.

Although the weather at that altitude can turn bad real fast. I definitely wasn't taking pictures during the worst of it. And frankly the lack of visibility wasn't so much of a concern, other than most of the traffic is heavy trucks and not many had more than DRLs on. It might not be obvious from the pictures but where there wasn't snow on the road surface, it was closer to a skating rink than dry pavement, or slush. They use some kind of liquid "salt" on that bit of highway instead of a salt/sand blend (or better yet, nothing), and it's not so effective when the temperature gets much below 0°F. It nucleates some pretty crazy frost. Even with my Hakkas it was slick. No one in the ditches today, but there were trucks spun out on a couple of the hills. It's totally normal road conditions for out here, and I'll drive it without hesitation. It's just really annoying to do so only to find out you have to turn around and go back because someone screwed up your order.
m2bandit
I ordered it from Amazon back in November. Ship date kept getting pushed back. I ordered it from summit the same day I tried to become a NAXJA sponsor... neither has happened Lol. Originally summit didn't say it was back ordered. I've contacted them about a real ETA because this gets pushed back every 2 weeks. They keep saying the next one is real. I tried contacting walker and didn't get a response. I'm fairly certain it's a lost cause, but I used a summit giftcard so I'm not out much. I'm really surprised at their lack of customer service, they used to be so good. @gogmorgo is the long bed one just a cut away from fitting? I've debated ordering one instead. The86manche
I may have a line on a short bed tailpipe local to me (mass) I can look into it. I just recently helped someone with a 2.8 mj Y pipe that was discontinued.

No. Not just one cut, at least. It’s longer ahead and behind the axle, and the hangers are in the wrong spot. I’m sure it could be done fairly easily but when I saw there was a shortbed pipe in stock still plus I do need the longbed pipe for my other MJ anyhow I figured it wasn’t worth the effort. If you can get an exhaust shop to make you one you’ll likely end up with a better product anyhow. It’s the typical Walker stuff so not the worst quality in the world, but it’s pretty thin steel and like, “crunch” bent with rippled sections, instead of mandrel bends. I do actually have both in hand now, and can get pictures in the morning. The weather was much better for the drive out and back although it did bring to light another road conditions concern that we don’t think about much. Couple small avalanches. That last one got cleaned up before my return leg, but it was halfway across the driving lane on my way out. And that’s not even half of it, my phone was slow to take the picture. Yeah, no avalanches around here except the ones made by GM.

I've debated ordering one instead. So this is the two next to each other. The long bed one is in the back. The section that goes over the axle is basically the same and the overall shape is the same. You might get away with not trimming the section behind the axle depending on your bumper setup because it’s only a couple inches in the difference there, but you’d need to lose some length ahead of the axle unless more pipe works better with whatever exhaust system you’re running, and also both of the hangers would need moved closer to the axle. So no, not just the one cut, but not necessarily the biggest project either for someone proficient with a welder. But I still think you’d be better off with better quality (thicker) pipe custom bent without the crinkle bends if you’re going to the trouble of modifying it anyhow. But if anyone in BC or near the couple locations in Alberta is looking, Lordco still showed one of the 47605’s in stock as of a couple days ago. 17 hours ago, FrankTheDog said: Yeah, no avalanches around here except the ones made by GM. Honestly not a huge deal because the chances of actually getting hit are pretty slim. But like when you see the rockfall warning signs, just don’t stop in the zone, and anticipate debris on the road. Wind transport and snow accumulation increase the chances of something coming down though, and in poor visibility it can be a heck of a thing to run into when it’s the same colour as the road and air. The friction from tumbling down the mountain warms it up and smashes all the crystals around so it sets up like concrete within a few minutes of stopping, kinda like the rows of snow the plows leave behind across your driveway. 1987Comanche
Wow. I didn't realize availability was this bad. I needed a tail pipe for my SWB MJ and saw Rock Auto was out of stock. I called the local parts stores and found one who could get it in 3-4 days. It was more than I wanted to pay ($80 vs $45 on RA) but mine was gone. I put it on about a month ago. I suspect they haven’t made a run for quite a while, and now we’re depleting the few sitting in the backs of warehouses. It likely just depends on if you find somewhere connected to the correct warehouse, and are willing to wait for it to come in. Which is something surprising to me. It’s totally normal for me at least for something to come from a parts store and be pushing a business week to show up, but not everyone is willing to wait that long, and it wouldn’t surprise me if some chain stores simply won’t bother shipping parts across the country because of that. I know Napa locally usually needs a pretty hefty push to order stuff from further east than Winnipeg, and it’s often an unpredictable time frame before they get it in. Napa also is showing zero inventory on tailpipes at least in Canada, FYI.
DesertRat1991
The Walker stuff does fit nice but it ain't worth waiting months for. There is nothing special or proprietary about what they deliver. If my choices were to traverse a snowy mountain pass or hit up the local Mexican muffler shop for a custom job, I'd be scrounging up my pesos. That only works if you don’t live in a tiny mountain town where driving over a snowy mountain pass is the only option because there is no local muffler shop to do a custom job. The nearest place is 200 miles away in any direction and will always involve snowy mountain passes.

A search for the part number shows some supposed availability online, pictures make it look similar in quality to the Walker, crinkle bends and all.
