I have a 4.0, 2wd, and a 5 speed. I have an ax15 to swap in as i do my 4x4 swap. Will the fly wheel and torque converter I currently have still work or will I need different ones?

Torque converter and a flywheel? Torque converters are for auto trans and are a big hulking metal doughnut full of jelly(ATF). Auto trans use whats known as flexplates and manual trans have a flywheel with the clutch and pressure plate. Perhaps your mistaking the pressure plate and clutch combo for a torque converter?

I don't have any idea what I'm talking about, sadly. I just some some transmissions I thought ah crap i don't have that and thought I was going to have to spend money.

Currently is the 4.0 with a 2wd 5 speed transmission. I have a ax15 to go in and thought my existing "guts" were still usable. Other than what's currently being ran in my truck just the transmission and t case

Since you have the AX15, (I guess it is a 4wd model) you need a transfer case.  Make sure it is 23 spline input shaft.  An earlier tcase that went with the BA10 has 21 splines and won't fit with the AX15.

The flywheel you have will work fine.

Do you have the bell housing for the trans?  Is it internal or external slave cylinder?  That will affect hydraulic system you get.

Not sure if the trans is set up for internal or external?  Look at the front.  Surrounding the input shaft is a plate (bearing retainer).  Is the sleeve over the input shaft short (~1") or long (~3").  The longer bearing retainer is for the external slave cylinder.

Do you have the proper cross member for the trans?  and the trans mounting bracket?

External! Perfect?

BTW - judging from the tip, you will need a pilot bearing that would fit 74 CJ5 with a 304" engine.

:L: I swapped from a BA10 to an AX15 several years ago.  I remember all the parts I needed.

Did the tcase come with the shift linkage?

I don’t think so.

are there JY near you?  Be on the lookout for an XJ with a manual. It can be 2 or 4 wd.

Was yours originally an AX15?

The BA10 was the trans Jeep used from 87 to mid-89.  Since yours is an 88, I guessed it was a BA.  If you have a 2wd AX15, the crossmember and trans mount should fit.
