looking for evidence of 3.73 gears ever coming in an MJ

an 84-85 xj with carb’d 2.5 and auto would be the most likely source for 3.73s

I would actually like to confirm this but can’t as the diff is caked. But this might be accurate as when I was driving it didn’t feel like I had a 4.10 D35 and I noticed this at mostly take offs and free way driving(wish I knew how fast I was really going and RPM)

I had an 88 chief, metric tone, tow package, auto 4x4 with np242 with buckets and lighted Lund, and 3.73s with trac-lock.  All on original order sheet from dealership.

but, that’s a unicorn.

Got a pic of the order/build sheet?

I have a D30 front axle out of a very early XJ (85, IIRC) with the V6.  Has factory 3.73 gears, high pinion, non-disconnect.  Grabbed it at a local yard several years ago for my eventual MJ 4wd conversion.

Yeah the 1986 XJ did come with 3.73, even though it’s not listed at places like Hollander as an option. MJ I’m just not sure, I think I’ve seen them in the junk yards but it was decades ago. Xj I am certain of because I bought axels off the 84-86 models with 3.73
