cbrant
Hey all! After reading through a lot of posts, it appears that the available options for replacement rockers totally suck and no one recommends them. So my question is... Is anyone working on bringing some GOOD replacement rockers to the market? If not, would I be better off just making the pair out of tubing like the XJ folk do? Not super keen on that, but I stink of desperation.
derf
I dunno. I suspect the "least worst" of the replacement rockers are a good bet. They just take a lot of work to get lined up right and in properly. But I suspect they're easier than fabricating something entirely by hand. Unless you just want to. cbrant
Just now, derf said: "least worst" what we all aspire to be. Yeah that's probably the route I will take eventually. I'm certainly not going to scratch build them. Sounds like a lot of work for something I won't be happy with haha.
Dzimm
You can also search for someone parting out an MJ outside the rust belt and have them cut out the rockers. I had both sides cutout from the front to back including the cab corner, cut them in half to bring size down, and shipped halfway across the country. Shipping wasn't too bad on it somewhere around $75 to ship plus $50 for the corners and they are factory correct.

I have a pair of corners coming my way, but the seller didn't want to cut out the rockers. That was my first choice.
Pete M
the big question is, how nice do they have to look in the end? plenty of guys have welded in box steel.

I'm unmotivated, but I'm not a half-asser. they need to look as close to factory as possible. 1 minute ago, Dzimm said: How much rocker do you need? Pics? I can grab a couple pics later. I think it's a few inches towards the front of each, but who knows what shape the rest of them is really in.

I may have enough good rocker left to patch up yours if it's only a few inches. I was surprised on mine when I cut it open, the inside was clean. ghetdjc320
I used the Spadano enterprises rockers and worked them into the body lines. They look like factory but are 1/4” steel. Only difference is that they fit all the way to the bottom of the pinch seam
ghetdjc320
Not many notice but my rocker sits down about 1/2” lower than the fender and bed panels. This is intentional since they are supposed to act like rock sliders. I like the side impact protection they add

ghetdjc320
It’s about the same as any other body work or repair. Just try to keep clean cuts and welds. Once you cutoff the rocker, you weld on a back plate by the pinch seam. Then another plate that goes at the rear and ties into the frame. You add your rocker and fill plates and weld it all up onto the new pinch seam reinforcement and frame gusset. Took me a full day to install plus a few hours of shaping and sealing the seams
strictlyxjs
I used the c2c ones and the fitment is terrible....that being said id rather have it look a little off and have NO rot or rust on my truck. I can live with the results...still getting ready for paint. I used a piece of xj rocker on the other side. It came out much better in my opinion. 89 MJ
First off, I would like to point out that there is a right way and a wrong way to do everything. That said, the right way is going to be way more time consuming and expensive, but you probably won’t need to do it again. The info from my rocker swap is on page two of my build thread. I would also also look at what @Dzimmhas done with his 92 rocker replacement. It has been done well too. His has been done on page 4 and his rockers were pretty bad. You'll want a solid chunk to do that much.
