jbain Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 Picked up this rusty MJ a little over a year ago in central PA. I've built a few MJs over the years but I've always wanted to do a Shoptruck/Gasser style MJ and I think this one is perfect.
jbain Posted December 3, 2019 Author Posted December 3, 2019 My brother Jon and I have already started cleaning up the rust and even got the doors painted with Bain Jeep Salvage. The wheels are just rollers and will not be used.
jbain Posted December 3, 2019 Author Posted December 3, 2019 The plan for the Jeep is similar to this truck but we will be converting it to 4wd, the stance will be similar.
jbain Posted December 3, 2019 Author Posted December 3, 2019 The plan is a 33 in the rear with a 31 up front with staggered gearing. The tires showed up yesterday.
krustyballer16 Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 How do you figure out gearing for that?Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
jbain Posted December 3, 2019 Author Posted December 3, 2019 Lots of gear calculators on the internet, can't remember which one I used.
jbain Posted December 3, 2019 Author Posted December 3, 2019 The rear will remain sprung under with an add a leaf and a small cut. The front gets a Stinkyfab longarm kit with 3 inch coils and ACOS for fine tuning.
jbain Posted December 3, 2019 Author Posted December 3, 2019 The interior will be like my Golden Eagle MJ and will be converted over to 97+
jbain Posted December 3, 2019 Author Posted December 3, 2019 Got the tires and wheels mounted up this morning.
jbain Posted December 3, 2019 Author Posted December 3, 2019 Found a low mileage ZJ motor to drop in, but first it's gonna need gaskets and paint.
buxmj Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 That is a cool build, looking forward to the progress pics. Thanks for sharing!
JMO413 Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 Awesome build! Can't wait to see it with the new tire setup.
jbain Posted December 7, 2019 Author Posted December 7, 2019 Thanks Everyone, I'm pretty stoked about it. If we can score some tickets to SEMA next year the plan is to drive it from WV to NV hitting parts of RT 66 along the way.
jbain Posted December 7, 2019 Author Posted December 7, 2019 I've decided I'm not going to run a hood on the Shoptruck. So the engine is gonna need to look pretty good. I matched the color of the Torque Thrust wheels for the block itself. I also picked up an aluminum radiator.
jbain Posted December 15, 2019 Author Posted December 15, 2019 Making good progress on the engine, way more work than I had expected.
jbain Posted January 16, 2020 Author Posted January 16, 2020 Finished mockup and am really happy with the stance. Time to blow it apart and get it on the rotisserie.
Drahcir495 Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 How does it drive/handle? We have an old white CJ5 driving around here and it has patches of surface rust in several areas. I think it is just the coolest. Thats why I love the primer patches on yours. Don’t change it lol
jbain Posted January 19, 2020 Author Posted January 19, 2020 Haven't driven it at all but with all new suspension I'm guessing like a Cadillac! Thanks everyone this may be my favorite MJ build yet.
jbain Posted January 19, 2020 Author Posted January 19, 2020 Found this hiding behind the bumper cap, time to break out the cutting wheel.
Pete M Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 of all the places to rust, that one is at least convenient.
