jeeptec1 Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 88 Comanche 4x4 cluster with no tack. Found and 88 Cherokee cluster with tach. Is that a plug and plug swap or is there a modification needed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Minuit Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Plug and play. If you have idiot lights for temperature and oil pressure, you'll need to switch out the temperature and oil pressure sending units to ones that are for gauges.
JustEmptyEveryPocket Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 THIS THREAD is the best one to follow in my opinion. Good luck with the swap, its well worth it.
jeeptec1 Posted June 5, 2019 Author Posted June 5, 2019 I did the swap. Plug and play. My Comanche already had gauges so no sensors needed. Just had to add 1 bulb for the 4x4 light. Everything works except fuel gauge. That’s my next project. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
jeeptec1 Posted June 5, 2019 Author Posted June 5, 2019 Did the original fuel gauge work? Nope . It’s either a bad sensor or a grounded wire. It pretty much reads over full. If you disconnect the connector at the tank it stays over full. I’m thinking more the lines of a grounded wire. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
eaglescout526 Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Check the screw connections on the gauge itself. I have a gauge right now(not in the truck) that won’t read because one of the copper wires broke off at the connection.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk '88 fuel sender was calibrated 0 ohms = Empty, 88 ohms = Full. A broken wire would be infinite resistance, a grounded wire would be low or no resistance. Could be a bad ground at the tank sender. Check for ground continuity.
Beau_41 Posted June 15, 2019 Posted June 15, 2019 I have an 87 Comanche, what year clusters would work for it that has a tach. Also my fuel gauge stays over full, parking break light as well as 4x4 light stays on (4x4 light goes on and off when driving how do I fix that?)

If you have idiot lights, you will need to change the oil pressure switch to a sensor and the temp switch to a sensor.

Check for faulty switch on 4WD unit.
