Any body ever seen this?

Had anybody ever seen a center console like this?

In an 87 XJ, weird options. It's a regular console with the power mirror switch cutout but the jeep never had power mirrors, its actually got a passenger mirror delete (and rear wiper delete, no roof rack or holes for it)

But the switch cutout has a factory cover plate over it that just snaps in place. 2839c6022ddc135aca19ba68224bea2c.jpgc9efe68b4a719876b5cce71981addec1.jpg6b2b6eb273ca76de41dce43f08ca7c68.jpg076adf9f57b0b951ffd64faaf7ec389a.jpg

Just now, krustyballer16 said:

I only assume its factory cuz it looks pretty clean and its stamped AMC and 86... but could be wrong.

Mmm yeah, someone sprayed that cap and stuffed it in the hole that was cut.
The hole looks molded like that. And it does look like a grey cap painted black. But still, if it didnt go in that hole, where did it come from?
I don't think it's a coincidence it says AMC and 86 on it in this 87 xj...

I have no doubt the cap is OEM, but that hole is sketchy.   More to your question … I've never seen an opening in that position in any XJ console.

Never saw window controls in the console except in later model Jeeps, like the Liberty.

The hole is in my 86 black console too , but the hole is covered by the center console insert and not that funky looking cover . It looks like someone took that from somewhere else on the Jeep and made it fit the hole .
Any idea where else it came from? But why would there be a console with the hole in a jeep with no power mirrors? They weren't taken out, it came with only the manual drivers mirror. And I've never seen one that didnt have the controls stick thru into the cab. This one is just a mirror, no know control thing.

There were five types of mirrors:

"Flag" type that attach to the top of the door

"Trucker" type that attach to the door

and three that attach in front of the triangular window:

Power remote

Manual remote (joystick inside)

Manual non-remote

I believe early XJ full consoles all had the hole with the plug in it, and it then was phased out in favour of different console inserts for different option packages.  I'm quite certain I have one around that is the same as that.
WITH the cover plate? Or just the cutout with the switch in it?

That's a 2 door XJ rear seat area ash try option delete. It goes near the cup holder of the rear seat area. 2 door only again.

That's correct. I see that now. It doesnt call out a cover for this hole in that drawing...

And yes G, the black kick panels, along with all the other black interior from this xj are for sale. I'll email you back. Thanks.
