88 MJ?

For sale near me. Guy is parting it out. Ad says it's an 88. The mirrors are throwing me off. Is this an 86? Only picture I have.

It could be 88 because 88 did have those mirrors as an option.

Could be an 88.  Those mirrors were factory options - called Tow Mirrors.  There is an internal brace to support the mirrors from wind while driving.

 

The side Comanche emblem was COMANCHE  on the 86 (and early 87s) models.

I can't zoom in enough on the emblem, but it looks like the post 86 emblem on the fender with the lower case letters.

That however doesn't mean much as it could have been switched or the fender switched.

Unless the whole passenger side of that MJ looks like a dumpster fire, there's no reason to part that thing out.  It should be sold whole.  JMHO.

I tried. No go. He pulled the motor which he said had 100k on it.

So buy what's left. Engines and transmissions are easy to find -- same as Cherokees.

 

And 100K on a Jeep engine (even a 2.5L) is nothing. Barely broken in.
