Warren99
Just to be clear, I'm wanting to know, if I was to change out the older front "clip" assembly with a newer one from a 97+ XJ, I know I would also need new fenders, but do I need newer doors or anything else in order to complete it? I won't be doing it anytime soon, but I am trying to figure it out ahead of time and so far just looking at pictures isn't helping too much. -Thanks
krustyballer16
You don't need the doors. Just fenders and header. Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk
Jeep Driver
Highly over rated. The 'new' ain't new no more.
krustyballer16
I like the look of the 97 swap way better than the stock. This is full exterior swap. But...if you use the new style flares on the new fenders, they won't match the factory rear flares. I shaved my rear flares to match the new fronts.Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk
Warren99
Ok, I'll be sure to get all that I need when I get the chance. I'm not quite sure if I want the 97+ fender flares, but I don't think the older ones would look right either so I'll just have to look into that some more. Pete M
I prefer the old look. so many are changing it up that old is new again. just don't throw anything away so you can go back later if you so desire. you can swap just the front header panel in. the only hiccup will be that the corners of the new panel are more rounded in the corners and it doesn't quite perfectly match the old fenders in that area. I can't find a closeup, but the spot is right there at the upper/outer corner where the fender touches the header.

MeanLemons
The holes are for the factory fog lights and tow hooks. That front clip must have came from a donor jeep that had them... those that didnt have them would have blanks to fill in the holes.

I haven't lost anything that way yet, but many pieces of plastic have been removed by my own hands due to vibrations from the CRD causing insanely irritating reverberations. #diesellife
krustyballer16
Undrstand, plastic isn't a very solid mounting place for lights.. Ya, the bracket broke right above the lense/housing. Weakest point. But I wish I had some tow hooks to put in the other spots. Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk

Pete M
I use my fogs as daytime running lights. aaaaaaand that's about it. they are mostly worthless otherwise, even after much brighter LED bulbs were inserted. mostly I was referring to tow hooks though. Gjeep
My OEM fog lights which mount in that location are mounted securely to the bumper on my 01XJ.

Had I known, I would have ordered the 97-01 version and shaved/sanded the rounded portion to meet the line of the older fender. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Crown-Automotive-55055233AE-Header-Panel-Fits-97-01-Cherokee-XJ/153116943063?epid=140529247&hash=item23a67b22d7
