GM Tailgate Handle on an MJ?

This Amazon user claims to have used a GM tailgate handle on his MJ successfully. Anyone here? Looks like some hacking and slashing is required...

It just looks wrong. The handle doesn't really fit in the "holder", or the shape doesn't seem right, or something. It just looks off.

Yes, it's a hack and looks goofy, but it's better than nothing I guess..

That was pretty much my assessment. "Better than nothing."

I disagree.  I'd prefer nothing.  I spent a few years reaching in to grab the little rods and I'd prefer that to the rectangle peg in the trapezoidal hole.  plus it gave me a place to mount a flag.

I have the resources to produce a simple part like this. I thought about looking into the actual need, and the actual cost of producing them.

Fixed the link for you. No clue who or what that was. But I do remember someone on here talking about maybe making a small batch out of stainless a few years back.

Thanks, and yeah a stainless handle would far outlast the OE. It could be powder coated black, polished, or painted.

I'm planning on taking a long look at mine and try to add some sort of keyed lock. It would be a nice addition.

I've built something along these lines. Drilled a hole in the side of the MJ tailgate handle for the power actuator arm to slide into. Metal plate with 3 holes is sandwiched between tailgate and tailgate handle. Ties in to the power door lock wires. I don't have it installed yet but have test fit and wired the power. Works well.

Grease, did you get around to making the handles out of stainless that can be painted?

I've not gotten anything made yet.
It might not happen. The more I look at the tailgate, the more I feel that there isn't enough room for a lock that couldn't be tampered with.

Leave off the lock. Rustproof handle has value
