My Comanche lost it's spare tire and the winch that attaches it some time in the past.   I am pretty sure that an OEM winch is rarer than hen's teeth.

I want to store my spare under the vehicle, so I have the maximum bed space available for carrrying junk.   What do you guys recommend for an alternative?  Can winches from other vehicles be adapted relatively easily?  I don't mind making a few brackets and whatnot.....

sounds like a good excuse for a trip to the junkyard!  :D   I'd image there are other trucks with an appropriate mechanism that can be adapted.

You can either run to the Parts Yards,

Or Adapt a New Spare Tire Hoist to fit your ride.

I have done the route of Adapting a New one.

Works fine.

This was suggested to me a few weeks ago by a dune buggy guy:

Find the spare tire winch from a late 90's Ford Expedition.  Then adapt the mounting as required.

Have not tried it yet.  Local yard wants $50 for the Expedition winch.

I got lucky and found a real Comanche spare tire winch last week.

I believe there's a generic you can buy new for less/similar to that...  Or it's for a Ford or GM or whatever (basically a generic at that point).

Heads up --

Looks like Alexia has an OEM short bed spare tire winch in the pile of "junk" he's looking to get rid of.    If you want to install it on a long bed, you would just need to unbolt the winch assembly from the V-shaped bracket.

XJ and MJ jacks and wrench are the same, the jack handle for MJ’s is shorter but you can still use an XJ handle.

The strap is just a rubber strap with D rings on the ends.

Something like this, minus the rusty speed handle wrench and folding lug wrench.

I got a buddy looking for the jack & handle.

I hear ya on the lug wrench.
I use these....

The telescoping handle comes in handy for using with the 36mm axle nut socket, and the nose is long enough to fit my snap on flip socket. I toss the cheap crap sockets it comes with.

I use the old school 3/8" speed handle wrench to operate the spare tire winch only - works great for that. Good idea on the telescoping lug wrench. Gotta get me one of those.    :beerchug:

EDIT:  Just ordered from Amazon. Thanks.
