jbain Posted January 10, 2018 Author Posted January 10, 2018 Wheeled it hard then passed it on to a buddy of mine. I wanted to get back to a weekend warrior style rig and unfortunately I couldn't afford to keep both.
jbain Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 Hoping to button up the body wiring today, I have to extend the rear harness 2 feet and I have no backup lights which I'm assuming is the NSS. But it seems that everything else is working fine.
jbain Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 Took a break from wiring to paint the MJ plastic to match the XJ Agate interior. Like everything else it's all about prep. Paint time 15 minutes, Prep time 1.5 hours.
jbain Posted January 13, 2018 Author Posted January 13, 2018 I reinforced the weak areas and layed down 2 coats of Resin.
jbain Posted January 13, 2018 Author Posted January 13, 2018 Well I finally got the roll pins out of both sides. I had bought some 1/4th inch round stock to make pins out of but it appears my hinges themselves are worn. Looks like I will have to drill everything out to 5/16th instead. I still have to weld up the hinges, you can see where the top hinge is pulling away from the body.
jbain Posted January 13, 2018 Author Posted January 13, 2018 Cleaned and painted the XJ brackets and got them mounted on the WJ seats. I really couldn't be happier about this JY find.
jbain Posted January 14, 2018 Author Posted January 14, 2018 Second coat of glass on the headliner board which means another day wearing a respirator. Man this stuff stinks.
jbain Posted January 14, 2018 Author Posted January 14, 2018 Ok, back to my personal wiring nightmare!
jbain Posted January 14, 2018 Author Posted January 14, 2018 Been sanding for what seems like forever, still not as flat as I'd like it but I guess it will have to do.
neohic Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Really impressed with the speed you're getting it all done in! Very good work, sir!
jbain Posted January 15, 2018 Author Posted January 15, 2018 Thanks brother, I'm trying to get the 97 swap stuff out of the way so I can get to the fun stuff. Spring is gonna be here before we know it.
jbain Posted January 15, 2018 Author Posted January 15, 2018 Spent most of the day getting the headliner in and mounting the XJ plastic. I also finished up the wiring in the cab as well as modified the XJ seatbelts to work in the MJ B-Pillar.
HOrnbrod Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 It's nice to be retired and have all that free time.

I wish I was really retired but unfortunately I couldn't live on Navy retirement pay. After getting home to WV I started working for the Federal Government and I've been there ever since. On the bright side in another 11 years I'm eligible to retire again.
HOrnbrod Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 You will be a double dipper pretty soon then. Good way to go.
87Chief Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Have a picture of the interior paint you used, or the code?

jbain Posted January 17, 2018 Author Posted January 17, 2018 Trimmed up the XJ carpet this evening, fits pretty good.
DirtyComanche Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 Before you drill your hinges to 5/16" try getting a 7mm metric bolt (10.9 grade preferably, 8.8 would be fine) that's the right length, and drill the hinges to 17/64. The 7mm bolt will be a bit too large for the hole, but since your hand drilling them there might well be enough wobble that it will be close to going, so you can file the hole out a bit and get it. Or final drill it with a letter J drill and a steady hand, which is only about a thou and change larger than 7mm. I suppose you could use a 7mm drill, but nobody stocks metric stuff. You don't want to oversize them too much or the hinge itself will want to stretch. I put high tolerance 1/4" bolts in the last set I did, they're just a hair bigger than a normal 1/4" bolt, it was enough that it tightened them up for the time being.
coolwind57 Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 I dig the headliner. I'm partial to having something more interesting than standard, factory solid colors. That's interesting that you have a center rear dome light. Looks like you added that. And that thing in between your sun visors is perhaps a map light? Stock?
