Comanche registration question.

So when I went to do the registration on my truck the other day. They asked if I wanted to renew the one on my MJ as well, I declined mostly due to the fact that the trans and t-case are in a shed right now :P but something I noticed back when first did it, and aging this time, is that in their system it shows up as a jeep commander instead of a Comanche, but my insurance has it listed as a Comanche, does anyone else have this issue or is it just me, it's never given me any problems, it's just something I noticed.

Never seen it on a registration, but I have on lots of classified listings. My guess has always been someone not so bright put two M's in the word, and it autocompletes but they can't make it spell "Commanche" so they give up and just go with Commander.

I would have that changed because it can cause problems later on down the road. If you get pulled over and the cop knows it's not a commander, he can wrote you a ticket for no tags due to it being the wrong vehicle and even have it impounded if he's an a$$. Obviously you could fight it but it's not worth the trouble. Also I have come to learn that you should always register you vehicle if you plan on it being on the road again in the next 5 years. Here in Iowa after being unregistered for 5+ years you can register it no problem no penalties. If it hasn't been registered in less than 5 years then you have to pay back registration and a penalty fee. I had to pay back registration and an additional $100 in penalty fees due to mine sitting unregistered for 2 years. Not much in savings but thats $100 I could have put into the truck. I don't know what the policies are in your state but you should check and maybe save yourself some money in the long run.

^^^ This. Jeep had a model called the Commander, I believe, so you need to get the registration corrected. If you have a title, check what that says, too, because it probably agrees with the registration.

Jeep did make a Commander from 06 till 2010 I believe is when they stopped. I own an 06. It's nice but I like my MJ and XJ better.

Why don't you just call your local DMV (or whatever it's called in your province) and inform them about it? And if you noticed the mistake on previous registrations, why didn't you inform them of the error then? It was their mistake; you shouldn't be penalized for it. As long as the VIN number is the same on all your documents you will be fine, but I'd let them know about it asap..............

Fortunately there are not any fees like that here. Also i did ask them about it when it was registered ( which it not right now) and they said they'd fix obviously they never did :P all the vin numbers match so hopefully that's worth something if i ever get pulled over when it's back on the road.

Ill see if i can find an old registration slip and post it.

It probably isn't a problem but you should has asked rather than just letting it go. I think Alberta's registration system is pretty lacking so I suspect it's fairly common for something like that, it was probably just a typo at some point.

I had a GM truck that said it was an Express (van) on the paperwork and it wasn't a problem, but I still don't know why it was like that. VIN checked out and was a truck VIN.

I would fix it asap.  I got pulled over in my wife's Honda civic several years ago because the color of the car did not match the color on the registration, something we had never noticed.  It was a grey car but the registration said green.  The officer pulled me over and luckily I had our then 2 year old daughter strapped in her car seat in the back, I think that relaxed him some, might have been worried it was a stolen car.  He asked many questions and let me go, just was adamant that I get it changed asap.  I know the manager at the tag office and she fixed it over the phone.

That is bazaar.  Have to wonder how he new the color of the car did not match the registration before he pulled you over?  Guess he ran your plate for some reason and the color mismatch was his weak excuse for probable cause.

Officers have much of you and your vehicles info by the plates, which is why we are saying to get it fixed. Obviously they won't do anything in the end since it is just a typo but having to deal with the situation because of a stupid typo just isn't worth it. It's better to just get it fixed now than deal with the consequences of it actually being questioned.

That is exactly what happened, I think.  He was behind me at a stop light and I know I hadn't done anything wrong.  I think someone had messed up when it was originally recorded and no one noticed.  He asked if I had any idea why he pulled me over and then asked if I had ever painted the car and after I said we can look at the door jambs and in the trunk if he wanted, he started to believe me.

Honda Civics and Accords are the most always top the vehicles stolen most often in the US list. Cops run them routinely when they can, and when yours didn't match the color in their database, they jumped on you.

I think most police departments are running automatic plate scanners now.  They do up here at least...  And yes, they will stop and ask you why your vehicle isn't the colour the registration says it is, if they don't have anything better to do.

I thoroughly enjoy the colour on my plowtruck's registration.  It's just 'Multi' :rotf:   I never knew that was an option until I took it to get the insurance renewed and parked it in plain view of the insurance agent's desk and she suggested we change it to that since it definitely was more correct than 'Orange' (only the fenders were still orange).

I don't think the scanners have made it out my way yet. I got pulled over about a year ago and breathalysed (story for another time, but I hadn't done anything wrong and blew absolutely zero) and so was sitting in the back of the cop car when the officer called my plate in. But then I do live in the middle of nowhere, where a scanner is probably a cost that isn't quite so justifiable when it's mostly not doing anything.

My dad had an early 70's Buick that he brought with him between a few States and then registered in Alberta after he moved up here. Then he moved to BC. Every time it was registered, it was always GREEN, but when registering it BC, I guess the girl asked what sort of green so he pointed to it out the window, and it became TURQUOISE. Then he moved back to Alberta, and when it was getting registered he said he always thought it was green but the girl in BC said it was turquoise, so they went outside to look at it and it became BlueE. Then some dip$#!& tossed a molotov cocktail in the back seat a few weeks later so I never got to meet it. He jokes now about not letting cars get too cold (i.e. bringing them to Canada) or they'll turn blue and die, but you can tell he misses it quite a bit.
