stevekop
This headlight relay you guys talk about to improve the lighting. Is this a plug in item, if so were does it plug in or is does it need to be wired in. Headlights on my 89 are terrible.
Ataki
It would have to be wired in, It's basically a relay, switched by the regular headlamp wiring, that feeds power directly from the battery to the lights Instead of powering the lights through the headlamp switch. johnj92131
I just posted this link last night in the Headlights thread: http://www.danielste...ays/relays.html You will find a complete package of information on the how and why of the light relays. Should answer all your questions and a few more.
Pete M
the kits are pre-wired. they just plug in behind your headlights and intercept the power to fire the relay and send full voltage to the lights. the relays' will need to be mounted somewhere and then you run a ground and then power to the battery. nice and easy. :D http://www.ebay.com/itm/CERAMIC-H4-HEADLIGHT-RELAY-WIRING-HARNESS-2-HEADLAMP-LIGHT-BULB-SOCKET-PLUGS-7-/330997592807
75sv1
As Pete said, its close to plug and play. I just did this on my '98 XJ. I took off the front grill. Plugged into the passenger side headlight socket. Obviously, plug the two plugs that go to the headlights. There are two ground wires, one for each side of lights. I attached them with the bolts that hold the front structural plates on. Its a thin stamping lower and inboard of the headlights. I electrical taped up the former drivers side headlight socket. Tucked it somewhere in the headlight bucket. Did the same with the passenger side, but it also attaches to the new wirings. The Red or + wire needs to attach to the battery or a junction of it. I placed it in one side of the fuse for the Power Distribution box (Fuse Box). Then I bolted the relays, on the header wall just behind the passenger headlight in the engine compartment. Its where it would fit, and the wiring allowed. I ZIP Tied the wiring that runs from the passenger headlight side the the driver's side to the original wiring. Dzimm
Just ordered 2 with Pete's link. The seller gives a discount when ordering 2! It also has a good picture to represent what needs to be done for installation. Very simple.
fiatslug87
Thanks for the write up link johnj. Just a note that the printer friendly pdf is missing some of the article: the why use relays section is different and maybe others.

I am assuming it actually is compatible?
