Dash Board sigma six display ?

Recommended Posts

ok i looked at the post and my one concern is

won't my vehicle be in 4WD all the time if i bypass that Vac/Cad setup

No.

Jeep stopped using the axle disconnect in the early 90s. Locking the disconnect in the connected position just means the front driveshaft will turn (free wheeling) when the vehicle is moving, but the front driveshaft will NOT be connected to the transmission and engine unless you shift the transfer case into 4WD.

ohhh ok so your saying that

the whole purpose of the vac set up is to engage the front axle so it works when its on

but when its off then the front drive shaft won't turn and stays in place

if i bypass all that crap and throw away the vac lines

then i remain with just a self engaging system where i have to turn the 4WD on by pulling the shifter up

and then turn it off i put it back down to 2WD but in 2WD my front drive shaft will still be spinning since my cam is permanently engaged

so pretty much all I'm doing is controlling what the transfer case does

does that sound correct to you guys ?

also is will the 4WD light in the dash still come on

or do i have to set up a custom switch to get that to work as well ?

If your clock works, or can be made to work, you might want to consider keeping it.  Some think it is a cool option.  If you do remove it, try selling it here or on ebay.  For Comanches that did not have a factory clock, there was a plain plastic panel that went there.  You can get one at a junkyard out of most any Jeep XJ Cherokee (most didn't have a clock).  It can be easily modded for a gauge or switches without cutting up your clock.  If you don't have junkyards around try the classifieds on here, or ebay.  Or I have some spares, pm me.

since you guys are helping me out with restoring the vehicle

i will probably just give away what ever i have left over from the vehicle to who ever wants it on this website

so if you want that clock then you can have it but I'm not at that point yet so ask me for it later i need to get this

thing up and running and i need to get this 4WD working as well

with that being said i am most likely keeping the left side of the dash especially if i can get the 4WD light to work

and i will probably replace the right once since i have a new radio in there and it already displays the time as well

You don't really have much choice about keeping the left side panel -- it's an integral part of the dash cluster.

if your thinking of replacing the clock panel with a gauge panel, there is a company that makes a panel with a gauge hole (standard size) and three switches

Any idea who makes this?

aplogies to the admin staff ----- that is made by Prime 4x4

i see thats why i want to keep it cause it would be easier to reuse it and save me time to work on all the other stuff

but does anybody know what i have to do to get the light to turn on once i bypass the vac system and engage the 4WD

I suspect you're taking about the panel of warning lights on the left, and the blank under the clock on the right? Never heard anything called "sigma six".

The one on the left has stuff like the 4x4 lights, check engine, emissions maintenance reminder, and a couple others that slip my mind.

The one on the right has the clock. That's it. Unless you have the somewhat rare fluid sentinel (or whatever it's called) in which case it has fluid level warning lights for all of them.

Do you happen to have a pic of the fluid sentinel. Never heard of it and wondering what it would look like

Once you lock the CAD (Central Axle Disconnect) in the engaged position, you no longer need the vacuum harness down at the axle. Trace it back up to the point shown in your upper photo, unplug it, and plug the lines it connected to. That should allow your vacuum switch to function, and the light should work.

Here ya go:

It was actually called "System Sentry," not fluid sentinel.

i was gonna lock over the CAD and just remove all of those passenger side vacuum lines then plug up what ever i can't remove

that pic of the fluid sentinel looks really kool to bad my MJ doesn't have all those upgraded sensors installed in it

also i just realized that i accidentally labeled the post as "Sigma Six Display"

i was actually thinking of a (Seven Segment Display Bus)

sorry for the confusion you guys

here's what i meant by  7 S.D.B.

this is the electronic piece in the dash that actually display all the warning lights and such on the Left Side of the dash

Right. I was mixing it up with the thing that keep your head slights on.

There's a yard I'm planning on visiting tomorrow that had an '86 Waggy with the sentry the last few times I was there, if anyone wants the panel. If you want all the sensors and $#!& though you'll really have to make it worthwhile for me cause we just got a couple feet of snow so I'm not thrilled about crawling all over it.

who would even bother going threw that much work

you have to hook up all the sensors to the dash that would take forever

Many of us would go through the effort, just for the "cool" factor. Plus, it was a rare, factory option (on the XJ). It would be a crime to let a known example go to the crusher. "They don't make 'em like that any more."

Well plans have changed and I didn't end up heading down there. Stuff sitting in the back sections of this particular yard stays there. They've got tons of old iron that hasn't moved for years, including six MJ's that don't look like they've had anyone other than myself picking parts off since I started going there. Hell, they've even got a couple Yugos, a Lada, and a Laforza just slowly sinking into the weeds. Zero entry fee, decent prices, they let you wander around by yourself, it's a great yard... Trouble is they also keep bankers hours and aren't open weekends.

The XJ Cherokee center console fits perfectly. I don't know if it's the same P/N as the MJ one or not, but functionally and visually it's the same. They're very easy to source.

Edit, assuming full console. The half console is hard to find from an XJ, it's also the same though.

there is a special AMC salvage yard here in Arizona and even the guy that works there said to me

"your looking for a what, center console, those are impossible to find in this city your better off just making a new one"

after calling a bunch of other regular junk yards i come to realize hes right :(

i live by Phoenix

i agree with you they did make a lot of them but what the guy was trying to say was

there are a lot of people calling him and asking for one

so that means that most of them have been bought up around this area

i was able to find one but its a 3 hour drive to the junkyard and the guy wants like 50 bucks for it

i told him he can go kick rocks

Assuming you want a full console,

Phoenix Pull -n- Save has 3 84-96 XJs.

Pick a Part has 3.

Surely one of those has to have a console in it still.

Take a Phillips screwdriver with you and something to pry the bezels off with. There's 7 screws holding it on. Two at the shifter, one under the transfer case bezel (or the 2WD blockoff piece if it's 2WD), two in the middle about where the handbrake comes out, and two at the back.

If you want a mini console, I have one in my garage somewhere. Let me know what it's worth to you if Eagle can't come up with one. They're harder to find but by no means impossible to find.
