54bobby
so the manche has started with the flickering headlamps. having done some reading especially cruisers wright up. i'm gonna do tyhe harness upgrade. however i can t find which one to purchace. the headlight bulb number in the owners manual is H-6052. i see no upgrade for that bulb. will another work as plug and play? 87. 2.5 larado w/ AW4
gogmorgo
I've got H6054's in mine. Of course if you don't want sealed beams you could always upgrade to an e-code type housing and an H4 bulb pretty easily. But hold off until you've got the relay harness in there. It's a huge improvement.
Knucklehead97
I love my H4's with the upgraded harness. They are ridiculously bright in a good pattern and I haven't even gotten a higher watt bulb.
Pete M
to those who have done headlight upgrades, have you done a DIY thread about it yet?
Knucklehead97
to those who have done headlight upgrades, have you done a DIY thread about it yet? it's honestly extremely straightforward, I would of never thought to do one it's so simple. If I have a clear off day soon I'll take a few pics and post a quick run down behind it!
Pete M
It'd be nice to have a link we can show people so they can understand exactly that.
gogmorgo
I'll see if I still have still have stuff from when I did mine. It was so long ago though, don't know if I still have the photos I took. But I've mostly been directing people to Go-jeep's diy thread, which is what I followed when I did mine. Also this image I put together to help visualize things a bit better:

Knucklehead97
Don't get the Putco. I hated mine on my other Jeep. The Ebay one I bought was 20$ shipped and works/looks way better,
gogmorgo
The H4 uses the same connector/socket as the original sealed beams. You're good to go.
Eagle
Basic question: I know the small wiring in the factory harness restricts light output somewhat, but how can it cause flickering? In my experience, flickering headlights has been caused by the headlight switch failing.
gogmorgo
In which case the headlights will continue flickering after the relay harness is installed, sure. And probably then the switch will get investigated. The harness is still a good idea though, eh?

In my experience, flickering headlights has been caused by the headlight switch failing. I agree ^^^ and as with any other electrical issue, always start at the battery....good clean terminals, serviceable cables, chassis grounds, etc.... Got to eliminate possible culprits or contributors first, I think I'd service the elec system and replace the switch, don't forget to tighten the switch connectors, (sometimes this is the cause, connectors that have loosened up over time). gogmorgo
And again, this doesn't mean you shouldn't be addressing a known issue that has caused electrical fires that have destroyed people's vehicles. Simply replacing the switch is no help if it's just going to do the same thing again soon. If anything it'll make the problem more apparent, because the relays will lead to the lights either being on or off, and not somewhere in between due to a poor connection somewhere. I bought it back when I was dumb and didn't think to check Ebay for a black one. As far as it working, it got the job done for sure. But it was double the price of the Ebay ones and didn't come with fuses (or at least mine didn't) plus I didn't see the reason for two positive wire connections. Just crowded up my positive post even more. Nit picky, I know, but all of that led to my hate for it. Lastly the wire insulation started to deteriorate after about 8 months of being outside on the truck. Hate is a strong term... how about, strongly dislike? :D
gogmorgo
Split loom. Black, looks almost factory, and keeps the insulation in good shape by reducing the effects of heat and friction.
Keyav8r
What Gomorgo said. And, what the split loom doesn't cover - black electrical tape.

Thanks Gog - never thought of that. Just covered it with split loom - it's now invisible.
