Tex06
Looking to upgrade my headlights from stock finally and I think LEDs are the way to go as far as power draw and light output. Found Don's writeup using the GE Nighthawks which run $180/side for a total of $360 in lights up front. Ouch. I found these mentioned in a review of the Nighthawks (someone didn't like the GE bulbs and went with these instead) and was wondering if anyone had used these or something similar to them: https://www.amazon.com/156005-Sealed-Headlight-Conversion-6-Inches/dp/B01ID0N1BI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1478202842&sr=8-3&keywords=AVEC+Luxx+LED They're only $120 for the pair and are drop in replacements. Before I make the jump, just wanted to see if anyone else had!
HOrnbrod
Found Don's writeup using the GE Nighthawks which run $180/side for a total of $360 in lights up front. I later sold those and went with Truck-lites. More light output with a better pattern.
buckwheat
I have been considering getting LED headlights. The only thing that worries me is winter driving. I have read that ice and snow will build up on them since far less heat is generated. Is there a way to cope with this? Also interested in your opinion when you get the lights installed Tex06. Having a cheaper option that trucklites would be nice.
Pete M
a relay kit is like 10 bucks on ebay. I would give them a full 12 volts first and then decide if I still need an upgrade.
onlyinajeep726
This is what I run on my XJ and soon will be implementing this on my MJ... I did the upgrade harness and 80/100 watt halogens on my buddy's XJ, and the above on my XJ. The LEDs were visually similar in terms of the outward projection.I did not bother with an upgrade harness in conjunction with the LEDs because there is very little current draw in comparison to a standard halogen bulb. These things will power on at full brightness with as little as 8V DC.
HOrnbrod
LED equivalents are coming out daily for most every incandescent/halogen bulb out there. I've tried a few and so far no problems and favorable results. The much lower amp draw is great, but longevity is an unknown in some cases. Don't think I'm ready yet for an H4 LED substitute bulb packaged in a H4 headlight housing with a reflector designed for a halogen bulb, probably never will be, but will be interested in your findings.

Keyav8r
On a side note to this topic - does anyone have a recommendation on a good source for LED replacements for the incandescent lamps in our trucks? I'm talking about taillights, brake lights, back-up lights, front/rear turn signals and side markers. eBay and Amazon have a lot of choices with prices all over the board, but I want to find a quality product source with more knowledge on the subject than just a cross-over chart. For the tail/brake lights, I've had good success with these: <https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MC72Q1K/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1> Run them in my Camry, too. There's a noticeable difference between the tail light and when the brake is applied, both during the day and at night. Some of the bulbs you find an Amazon and eBay are garbage and you can barely tell when the brakes are on because there's not enough change in lumens to distinguish between the two. As for the rest, go to <https://www.superbrightleds.com/> and look up the vehicle. I've bought stuff from them, too. They sell great stuff. Knucklehead97
Was that with brights or lows on? That's about equal to the low my H4 bulbs produce.
onlyinajeep726
I'll see if I have do a side by side using my friend's XJ with harness and 80/100 watt H4's. I mainly wanted to illustrate with the above image the light spread, and show it's not all up in the trees and oncoming lane like HIDs in halogen housings are. I like the halo style Garbage... Absolute garbage. I, when I was quite younger, bought a set of these from Craigslist... Installed them and instantly hated them. Light scatter was horrid and aim was junk. Took them off and resold them on CL. Not worth $90-100. Especially when you can get a good quality, GLASS housing like Rampage for about $75 on Amazon. Jeepman
I run the same style LED's that are in the first Post and comparing them to my previous H4 HID's I say they are very similar and the only real difference I found so far is the High beam distance... The LED H4 lamps are Great with the correct H4 lens and ONLY if the LED is a quality kit and not the single LED replacements you can buy for Cheap... No heat output is a problem if your in a very high snow area but if you do what you should do anyways which is clean your vehicle off clear of snow then you shouldn't have an issue but if your one of those idiots out there that only clean 2% of the windshield so you can barely see then you are not going to do well with LED's but then again you should just stop driving altogether...
