Go to leave for work this morning and find a note on my storm door saying "Hey, the lady across the street backed into your truck and drove off"

Sure enough, she completely caved in the lower corner of the bed, destroyed the drivers side of the rear bumper bad enough there is no saving it, and broke my tail light.

I'm just glad I have a witness, because I am sure they will love it when I show up at their door with a police officer and demand their insurance card.

Don't mind me, just an angry rant.  Not how I want to start my day.

Well, I confronted them and worked out a deal (it's obvious they don't have insurance).  So, they are going to pay me cash out of pocket so I don't claim it.  I already spoke to the police and I can file a report at any time since I have a witness to the event.  If they don't come through on Saturday, i'm going straight to the cops with it.

That being said, I really need to find a drivers side tail light.  Sigh....

Remember that you own a limited production collector's vehicle with very difficult to source and expensive parts. Make sure the rectal orifice in question knows this.

Oh trust me, I let them know how hard to find and expensive these tail lights are.  he didn't believe me lol.  I told him if he can find one cheaper than what I have seen them for sale, to go ahead and buy it, but it has to be un-cracked.

Worst case scenario is I have to go through my uninsured motorist coverage.  My only fear is that they will total the truck out, and I like the fact that it has a clean title.

That's the downside of having really expensive parts - I'm pretty sure just having the taillights smashed out would theoretically total my '89.

Knowing the character of this trash bag, he'll probably go out a steal you a nice one.

Just trying to inject a little humor to make you feel a bit better. Your title for this post is spot-on.

...Your title for this post is spot-on.

That's funny, it's the exact title I was initially going to use for my "Some SOB wrecked my MJ!" post.

I'm sorry, but they lost any chance to be a trustworthy individual when they left the scene. I would file it with the police, call your insurance agent, and take them to court. They will only junk the truck if you let them take it. I had a guy mash in a cab corner years ago. The repairs exceeded the value of the truck so I negotiated the value, took a check, and kept a clean titled vehicle. The only thing you would be out is the deductible until court or the insurance agency got it out of your deadbeat neighbors.

I would be very careful about dealing with the insurance company. I "thought" I had a written agreement with Liberty Mutual to accept payment only IF title was not branded. They reported it as totaled anyway, claiming state law made them do it. But, I got enough $$ to properly fix and repaint the truck. Either way, life is a crap shoot.

Sorry to hear that buddy I hope everything turns out OK for you, BTW I agree with your title as well. Part of the big reason I plan on getting the heck out of So Cal LOL!!

I'm sure it will work out ok.  I managed to find a tail light far cheaper than he is going to be paying me, and I was planning on a new/different rear bumper anyway.  The only annoying damage is the sheet metal.  It was already a little dented there, but now it's creased and stretched pretty bad.  For now I am going to try and beat it back as best I can and hit it with some more rattle can until I can get around to proper body work on the bed later on.

So, the guy came through for me and I have more than enough for a tail light that I found and a new bumper (probably a Westin unit).   I'm happy.
