I feel dumb for even asking this but I don't know how to change the bulbs in my overhead console... please don't rub it in lol

Is this console in your MJ? If so, what vehicle did it come from? Doesn't look like any Jeep console I've seen.

I had a 91 XJ with the same center, overhead console.

 

I don't remember how to (or if I ever) changed the light bulbs.

the're from a jeep, I have one waiting to go into mine, if I remember correctly just pull gently down on the black part and it should all come out as one. They are however a b*@$£ to put back in, that's what I remember the most.

Yes hornbrod it is in my MJ, i think it came out of an XJ and the previous owner cut it down length wise so it would fit in the comanche. I hated it when I first got the truck but it's sort of growing on me...

Wiggilez I tried pulling down on them and I don't feel like that's not right, I was pulling so hard I was afraid the console was going to pull off the headliner... it sort of feels like it has a spring or something holding it in there

On my '98 XJ, you have to slip it forward or back. I think forward. I think there are two large headed studs that it is slotted to. Hope that makes sense. I plan of doing this to my MJ. If not factory, someone did a VG job.

Was this a factory option for the MJ? I'm almost positive that mine isn't factory because of some of the janky things that were done to it like this for instance

MJs only came with the B-pillar lights, no dome light in the headliner. That XJ console was cut down to fit the MJ's shorter roof. When I did mine, I blocked off the end you have your hand in with some plastic, I also shaved the part that contacts the headliner so it would not stick down as much at the back.

 

Edit: How many of those plugs do you need, I think i have a few in gray.

I only have 2, but I figured I'd replace all of them because the 2 I have fit sort of loose. I was wondering if there was somewhere online that sold them or if I needed to go rummage for them at the JY

If you need the screw covers in gray, that is the most common interior color for XJs and you should be able to find them in the junkyard. 

 

I might have a few gray ones floating around also.

Alright well ill look around next time I'm in the junkyard before I take anyone else's stockpile... I'm sure those things will be hard to come by before too long
