Hey guys, it's been awhile! I was wondering if there is a place I could get a Dana 44 front built how I wanted for around $2000 to $3000 price range. Also any info on what vehicles that have a Dana 44 that are a semi easy swap. I am keeping the 5x4.5 bolt pattern. I know there is an over seas version that were factory put in some Cherokee's but I don't think getting my hands on one of those would be easy!

What I've read is most Dana 44s are going to need fabrication to fit, but the '07+ Rubicon Dana 44 axles are much stronger than other front Dana 44s. Good luck!

Thank you all! I would like to run 37" at the end of the build with no worries! I did see something about the TJ axles being a option. I didn't know that it wasn't that much stronger than the Cherokee 30 though! It makes me question if the options for a Dana 44 front for me aren't that much stronger that a 30!

I just called them and they were suprised it was a picture of the 30 and said it was a mistake, he said he was going to update the picture soon! So there's that. But he also said it's pretty much the same other than the Differential housing itself.

um, you do realize the Ujoints are the same size as the Dana 30, yes?

What are the common fail points between the axles? (30 / 44) 

 

U-joints

Gears

Spindles

Tube strength

un-sprung weight

Yoke

?others?

 

So, if the common fail point, is say, "axle shafts", then would it make sense to focus solutions on that fail point? Or, just fix the common fail points. 

 

I just saw a snapped Dana 30 on an XJ (on the "Book Of Faces") Maybe from too much jumping? So would have a truss prevented that? Would having a 44 have prevented that?

 

I was looking at going with a 44, but I changed my mind. I'm not planning on running larger then 33" tires. 

 

I will be trusing, upgrading the axle shafts & joints, and maybe sleeving.

 

Not saying the 44 is not worth it. It would be cool to have a 44.

I ended up just doing a Chromolly d30 setup myself.

I like the Quadratec one, it's a pretty decent price in my oppinion considering the only thing missing would be the hubs! Also I did hear that they had the same u-joints as the Dana 30 but could be upgraded?

The older d30's came with small, weak U-Joints.

 

The 92+? Came with the same size U-Joint as the D44's.

 

 

also the G2 on quadratec is Low pinion, iirc

1310 U-Joints are for the drive shaft.

Axle shaft U-Joints from 84-95 are Spicer 260 sized except for ones that had ABS. All ABS and 95.5-01 Cherokees have Dana 44 sized 297/760 U-joints.

The Jk internals are slightly stronger than a regular 44, but the housings themselves are junk without sleeving and trussing.
