shawn
just wondering if anyone would know off-hand what would be the gears most likely found in a truck like this one. it's a hundred dollar special but doesn't really have anything nice about it other than the interior. Crash
I believe that there is a thread with all model year specs. But, I want to say 3.73's is what that would have. And, for 100$, you could turn profit on it easy if you don't want to keep it.
shawn
i'd love to find that thread. i always look for the 4 cyl xj's and mj's now for the diffs but this is the first 2.8 ive seen. woulda thought they would have given them at least 4:10s. Pete M
being an 86, there's simply no way to know for sure. the ratios weren't really standardized until 87. plus all sorts of craziness can be swapped in over 30 years time. easiest way is to check is to jack up one tire, put the trans in neutral, and rotate the tire around twice while counting the number of times the driveshaft rotates. for example, if the driveshaft rotates around about 3 and a half times then the ratio is 3.55. If for some reason the rear diff has a posi in it, then you'd have to jack up both rear tires and rotate them around just once.

shawn
That's about half and half reporting 4:10s. Maybe i'd better get back out there and have a second look at it.
shelbyluvv
My 86 had a 2.5 with a AX-5 with 3:07 gears. It's best you check them for yourself to be sure.
