Bensquire
I just purchased this 1991 Eliminator with 65K miles, SWB, 5 speed, 2x4 from its original owner. It has the original window sticker, owners manual and other documents and is in an extremely clean condition. I am not quite sure what to do with this truck. I have had ideas of putting a D44 in the rear and maybe converting to 4x4. But, then I have also thought of leaving it totally stock. I guess I am looking for suggestions and/or ideas. Anyone want to share any thoughts or suggestions?
HOrnbrod
LWB Eliminators are very rare. In the condition that beauty is in, I'd keep it bone stock to match the build sheet. These things are starting to take off in resale value. Oh - and park it in the winter. Nice score.
Motorcharge
4wd conversion at most is all I could bring myself to do. Drive it a could times a month and keep it in a garage for 10 years and that thing will be worth a ton.
benjy_26
I'm with Hornbrod. Do a resto and enjoy it for what it is. If you want a 4x4 Jeep, there's literally MILLIONS of XJ's and ZJ's out there being sold cheap that one can beat on.
Minuit
:agree: Why beat on a clean low mileage survivor that by many accounts is appreciating in value when there's plenty of crap out there to destroy?
91Pioneer
If you have the urge to mod it, STOP and sell it to someone that will preserve it.
RochesterMJ
Listen to Hornbrod - if you can, park it for the winter. I got a 91 from Missouri a couple years ago, no visible rust. Parked it one winter, drove it one winter. There is rust-through on both rockers now and the paint above the rear flares started bubbling. I'm sure the rust was lurking but the snow/salt really accelerated it.
91Pioneer
It's fine to drive in winter but you *must* properly rust proof it first. That involves spraying Krown T-40 or Fluid Film or similar into every speck of metal panels that you don't want rust on. Drill holes, get inside the rockers, get behind the cab corners, do inside the doors, inside "frame" rails, all suspension underneath, top of gas tank, back side of front fenders, back side of bumpers, rear wheel arches, etc. If you soak it good with a proper rustproofing product, enjoy. If you can't, well try to park it for winter ;)
buxmj
I agree with everyone above, keep it stock and pristine! I don't know if you will find an mj with so few miles. Awesome find, enjoy it! Buck.
sinkrun
WOW thats nice don't TOUCH IT maintain it well put it away from the salt or sell it to some one who will. These are getting pricey right now in 10 years that thing will be $$$$.
neohic
^This. All of it. Beautiful truck! And, Don... LWB Eliminators are very rare... ... agreed, but... I just purchased this 1991 Eliminator with 65K miles, SWB, 5 speed, 2x4 from its original owner...
HOrnbrod
Someone edited it! :fs1: But even if this is true I should have looked at it more closely.
Bensquire
Thanks everyone for the advice. I do not plan on "beating" on it. I also do not plan on driving it in the snow and salt. It was rustproofed by the original owner when purchased but I am going to get the Krown rust proofing done shortly, anyway. If anyone thinks they will maintain and keep it in better condition, shoot me an offer. Like I always say, "everything is for sale." Thanks! yellaheep
Yeah, that's one very rare example of a great condition Eliminator. If you have the urge to mod it, put it out there for some sort of trade deal if need be, maybe you can find a trail rig MJ someone's willing to "shift gears" with and keep that Eliminator pristine. Super nice score either way.
