uncleben03
I picked up my first MJ yesterday. I traded my Grand Wagoneer for it. The MJ makes my 7th Jeep. I found it on craigslist while randomly browsing Jeeps for fun. As soon as I saw it I called the guy, and after talking to him, I knew I had to have it, so I traded my 88 Grand Wagoneer for it. He said an old guy from Minnesota had it since brand new until a couple years ago. I can't believe for being in Iowa and Minnesota it's whole life that there is basically no rust. I'm not sure what my plans are for it. I'd like to do a mild lift and maybe 32's, but I already have a lifted Wrangler for fun so that would just be for looks. I may just leave this completely stock since it's in such nice condition. What do you guys think? 1989 MJ Pioneer 107,000 miles 4.0 I6 AX-15 5-speed NP231 4x4. The only work the guy did to it was spray on undercoating (frame was perfect, just preservation), some minor valve work, and new shocks. He then cleaned up and clear-coated the valve cover. Other than that, this is 100% original.
neohic
Seem to remember them asking a pretty penny for that on CL. Beautiful truck! I'd do nothing to it but carry on how it was cared for and keep enjoying it... and put the grill on right side up.
Minuit
Another vote here for "keep it original and unmolested" Clean MJs are getting harder and harder to find.

I wonder how long it would have been before I would have figured out it was upside down? This is the oldest Cherokee-style Jeep I've had so I'm not super familiar with all the intricacies of this era yet.. Hahhaha thanks for pointing it out! Yes, he was asking quite a bit for it I thought, but after inspecting it I think it's worth almost what he was asking. You just don't see MJ's this clean anymore, and that was worth more than anything to me. Fortunately (or unfortunately) for guys like us who like old Jeeps, there are no price books or KBB references. It's all about what it's worth to you as a possession. And to me, this thing is worth a lot because it's a step back in time and has been preserved awesomely. And it's a pickup. Who doesn't need a pickup? buxmj
I will agree also to keep it stock. I also have an '89 Pioneer and keep it stock, although when I had it painted I did not replace the Pioneer stripes. I like it better that way now, buy that is for my truck. Congrats and enjoy! HOrnbrod
Excellent truck that looks like it's optioned out very well. Amazing condition for a truck from up north. Must have been parked every winter. And I also agree keeping this beauty original. Also congratulations figuring out how to post pictures here in your first post. We have people who have been here for many years and still have no clue how to do it.

pixiedust64
Another vote for keeping her original! I agree to keep her away from the salt/cinders, what ever they use in your state. She's a beauty :-)
Comanche County
Yeah, like everyone said, that's a nice truck. I'd keep it original too.
uncleben03
Original it is! Might put some normal size AT KO's or something on it when these tires wear out in 10 years. Probably do a paint-matching roll-on bedliner as well.
