Zenobian_84
So I finally decided to make the jump from having a bench seat to having bucket seats in the MJ. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it, but man, what a difference. Those first few minutes after making the switch, pretty much felt like this video. . :MJ 1: . I don't feel like I'm slouching into the floorboards anymore, plus, I gained an inch or two; enough so I can finally see out of the rear view mirror correctly (yes, and I'm 6'1 to boot). As you can see, the bench seat is still adjusting to it's new home in the back of the bed. Not sure yet what I'm going to do with ol' blue. Now I don't know what to do with all the extra space in the cab. So many decisions to make... :hmm:
JeepcoMJ
...they're not even the same seats lol. Add a center console...heaven.
AeroNautical
Do this: 97+ XJ center console, I'm so happy with it. 2 cup holders, nice 4wd shifter window, decently sized cubby and the option of putting a hand brake in it.

Blue XJ
Do this: 97+ XJ center console, I'm so happy with it. 2 cup holders, nice 4wd shifter window, decently sized cubby and the option of putting a hand brake in it. That's what mine looks like too, same seats, but in tan with a 97+ console. I was able to use the 97+ shift boot as well to fill that opening aroud the shifter. Had to scoot the console rearward a little though, the boot would bunch up and make it tough to get into 2nd.
AeroNautical
It does take a little modding, I had to remove the heat box that directs heat to the foot wells, but that can be avoided with a little trimming on the console itself. I haven't yet found a 97+ shifter boot, but there isn't much in my truck for looks anyway, I'm not too worried about it, haha.

JeepcoMJ
Also, the heat box from an xJ solves the issue...if you use the plastic heat tube that goes with it.
Motorcharge
The 97+ consoles should more or less bolt right in since the biggest issue on swapping them in older XJs is the fact that the parking brake is in a different spot. The little half circle area in the middle of the console is great for switches too.
jimoshel
After reading the above posts, it became very apparent that some folks just don't know the difference between a "bucket seat" and a "hole in the ground" These, people, are bucket seats. . johnj92131
is this along the lines you were thinking jim? :D r Pete: I really like this modification!! Works great for a road trip when the wife wants/needs to stop every 50 miles for a "potty break". Just use the bucket and keep on moving!!
jimoshel
Exactly. Even looks like the same bucket.
Guest
Exactly. Even looks like the same bucket. Was seriously considering running around with a few milk crates if I couldn't find some brackets. Throw some padding on 'em, and they're as good as OE. :shake:
