Buying a 89 pioneer. It ran good. However, it had almost like a whoosh noise when you would hit the gas...almost like a vacuum leak but it didnt whistle just a whoosh noise. Coolant was clean. Dipstick looked fine and was oil color not milky, but it felt thin..sorta had the consistency of water..figure it really needs an oil change. But no noises. Alittle hard to start, had to give a little gas. H doesn't run it but once a week. My main issue is the entire passenger side of the block is caked in oil. The valve cover gasket is definitely leaking and likely the oil pan. Both were sealed previously with orange silicone. Is there something else that I should look at closer or be worried about before I bite the bullet?

$4500. It spent its entire life in florida. It is super clean. Ran a carfax and everything is spot on. 3 owners. Even have access to everything I need for 4wd conversion. But that oil covered block scares me alittle. But it is 25 years old. Only 86xxx miles too

Oil on the passenger side of the engine strongly points to the oil filter adapter as well. It wouldn't get oil on the front, but it's probably leaking anyway.

offer 2500 go from there. cash in hand in 100s because cash is king, guy wanted 2500 for mine i paid 1300. i was the only guy who showed up with cash.

He took the nada value and showed me. It was $6000. He said $4500 was the lowest. Should I pass on it then? Its 2wd and I have to convert it or I won't make it through winter. So that's even more $$ ill need to put into it

Leaks can be fixed, engines replaced.

Clean straight trucks are getting impossible to find........so price is up to you.......you got the cash......it's yours.

I spent $2600 on an almost completely rust free truck with only 109k on it with a small lift on it.

It had its fair share of issues though.

I also drove from Pittsburgh to New Jersey to get it and tow back behind my buddy's XJ.

But I don't regret buying it even after putting a ton more work than I expected to get it on the road again.

So to summarize, if you want it ,and can afford it, buy it, and get to work!

Ahh wow 4500 seems a bit much especially for a 2wd and with havin to do engine work! Got my 86 Comanche 125k miles for 1000 which was just a great deal because the truck had a lot of goodies, I would say best thing the truck has going for it is the body, but if your going to off-road it might as well not be too concerned about that. Oh and I bought mine in Oahu, Hawaii where it is rare and hard to find these trucks as well our cars are generally more pricey :D I'm sure you can find a better deal

Yeah, the NADA classic car pricing guide is ridiculous when it comes to pricing our trucks. I have NO idea where they get their info from. My 87 2.5 2wd is shown to be worth around $7000.00.... if I try to sell it, do you think Ill ever get $7000? NO, and neither will this guy unless he finds just the right idiot to buy it... trouble is those are few and far between nowadays.
