Murph89 Posted July 26, 2014 Share Posted July 26, 2014 Hello everyone my name is tyler and my buddy has a 87 regular cab short box 4x4 manual transmission 4cyl comanche. It's really clean but the transfer case is destroyed currently. He literally split the housing of the case. It has brand new BFG all terrain tires and is other wise in perfect mechanical condition. He's wanting to sell the comanche and I'm intrested in it. My question is how much should I be looking to buy it for? Also how much would a stock transfer case be? I do have the tools and facilites to replace the transfer case. He threw a number out there of 3 grand is that too much or not enough? Any input is apperciated! Thanks! But as it is $3000 sounds VERY high for a non driver. Even for a drivable truck it sounds high. It would have to be a really nice truck for that price. nitroxsteve Posted July 27, 2014 Share Posted July 27, 2014 I picked up a stock tcase for $75 here not sure what it will cost in your area. 3K is a lot for the average MJ around my area. It would have to be in great shape for that price. Good paint, interior, and drive train before I would give that much. I would also pay more for a stock truck than a modified one. But other than that my understanding is its stock. So it's NOT stock, and it's broken to the point it can't be driven. $750. $3,000 is so ridiculous it's not even worth discussing. A member here just sold a clean '92, which is a much more desirable year for many, with a 4.0, 5spd, 4x4, lifted, and daily driver capable for $2,500. Jim is on Colorado and has bought/sold more Comanches than you have ever seen. So his estimate is pretty sound for that area. I paid $400 for a complete running daily driver capable '91 with a 4.0/auto but 2wd and some body issues. The problem with buying someone else's mods is that they think they're worth a lot of money, but the reality is they're never done the way you would want, they're rarely done well, and it's tough to negotiate a fair price. Based on your original description I said $750. Now that I've seen the photos, I'll lower that to $500, tops. If he beat on a 4-cylinder hard enough to trash the transfer case, you KNOW the truck has been seriously abused and your buying a rolling box of problems. It's a broken truck.
