outlaw star Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Hi folks, I see a lot of names I know and a lot of new ones as well. I'm the Outlaw and just towed my new project home last weekend. It's an 87 2.5L 4spd 2wd. I flat traded for a Xj long arm kit I had laying around. The wiring is all hacked up and fuel system needs repair but I got her to crank and start so she runs with no knocks/noises. The local Jeep club for all the repairs and work I've done for them, has given me an AX5 trans and transfer and will be taking my old Xj front axles and regearing to match the engine. My 2.5L is getting a "custom" upgrade (I'm keeping the 4cyl). Here's the first few pics and more to come.
88whitemanche Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Yes your finally on here! Welcome! Let me know if you need anything...
onlyinajeep726 Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Outlaw, you're on CC now!! I saw on CF that you picked this baby up the other day. Welcome! Lots of good information and good folks here.
outlaw star Posted June 25, 2014 Author Posted June 25, 2014 Thanks guys! Lurked for a while, saw a lot of good people so decided I'd join in and share what I know with you. Like Cruiser, to those who don't know me, I have vast knowledge on Jeeps/AMCs. Annnd to those on CF, if I can ever help you, please don't hesitate to ask.
benjy_26 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Dig the ride. Kudos on keeping it a 4 banger! I'll be watching intently.
outlaw star Posted June 29, 2014 Author Posted June 29, 2014 Grabbed a few more pics of what I'm working with. Also found I have 3.55 gears. Eh, that makes it easier to put my D30 in the front I guess. Oh, and this crapped out on me. Just rigged a kicker pump in it's place to keep the motor running while I work on it
outlaw star Posted June 29, 2014 Author Posted June 29, 2014 Thanks guys. I've read through your builds and got a few more ideas on what I want to do. For now, clean it up, get running great, change fluids and put a set of 235/75r15 ATs I have on it before October (Jeeptoberfest is coming!)
outlaw star Posted June 30, 2014 Author Posted June 30, 2014 It has AC, but no power steering?Yup. AC but has Emanuel steering (It take both you and Emanuel to turn the wheel.) Manual steering isn't as bad as some think. I don't plan on going bigger than 31s anyways.
onlyinajeep726 Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I don't plan on going bigger than 31s anyways. That's what they all say at first, hahahaha. :wavey:
mnkyboy Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I didn't mind manual steering when I had 31s. Even with 33s it wasnt bad on the street, offroad was rough without it though. Â Luckily its a simple swap that you can always add later if you want it.
outlaw star Posted July 4, 2014 Author Posted July 4, 2014 Buddy had a sending unit sitting in his barn. He gave it to me. Score!New High Altitude CPS from NAPA.
Guest Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Nice wheels; good find on that sending unit too. Â Nice to see more 4 banger guys around here. I was starting to lose hope
outlaw star Posted July 5, 2014 Author Posted July 5, 2014 Thanks. Only problem with it was a mouse chewed the wiring so I spliced n taped it up.
lil_loco Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Can I pick your brain @outlaw star  Would you mind sharing close up pics along your a.c. I'm trying to put a.c. into my i4 86 and can't find any actual photos of the setup under the hood.
outlaw star Posted July 5, 2014 Author Posted July 5, 2014 Can I pick your brain @outlaw star  Would you mind sharing close up pics along your a.c. I'm trying to put a.c. into my i4 86 and can't find any actual photos of the setup under the hood. Sure thing. I'll take you a few pics tomorrow. What exactly would you like first?
lil_loco Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Just the compressor setup (how it mounts) and the lines/plugs running from it to the firewall.I just want to be sure what connection points I'm dealing with. That would be great.
outlaw star Posted July 6, 2014 Author Posted July 6, 2014 Well, off to NAPA for thermostat, valve cover gasket, radiator hoses and coolant.
lil_loco Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Thanks! Now to gather parts ;) Â And follow your build
outlaw star Posted July 6, 2014 Author Posted July 6, 2014 Got bored and relocated the AIT sensor. There's a reason Chevy puts them there.
88whitemanche Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 I like that idea...how is the idle with it there now? And is that a new one?
outlaw star Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 I like that idea...how is the idle with it there now? And is that a new one? I switched it over from The Outlaw II. Idles great actually. It's my modified airbox lid w/K&N filter.
