Incommando
I just realized that for the first time in over 30 years of owning vehicles I do not have a single manually shifted vehicle in my little fleet. A sure sign of an impending apocalypse?
88ComancheMitch
Probably a sign that you're getting older. I almost ended up with a 5 speed, glad I ended up with the auto now though.
terrawombat
Both have their place. Both have their pros and cons. Both are enjoyable to drive. Therefore, I own both.
87Warrior
I have a nasty habit of hitting the brakes when I drive an auto. I call it 'left foot syndrome'. I hope to get over that when my '92 hits the road sporting an AW4

A sure sign of an impending apocalypse? No es bueno, Senor Incommando. One needs at least one manny tranny in the fleet. It says so on your man-card. :brows:
Minuit
The demise of the man-pedal is a metaphor for the demise of modern society and the impending doom upon us for sure. :D I much prefer manual as most of us do and every once in a while I consider converting my MJ to a 5-speed, and if the AW4 dies any time soon I just might. But the automatic sure is nice in traffic and in town with stop signs every 3 feet. With that said, if a nice donor comes along, I may not be able to stop myself. Jeep Sarge
I agree each has its purpose, each is fun. I have owned alot of Jeeps and 75% Manual and love them but wife insisted on my LJ being an Auto so she could drive it. MJ is Manual and glad it is! Blue XJ
My last daily driver was a 6 speed, it was really hard to go back to an auto for a daily driver. My wife's hot rod is a 4 speed manual, at first it was enough to cure the itch of driving a stick every once in a while, but I ended up just pulling my AW4 and putting an AX15 in my Comanche. It'll be interesting the first few times rock crawling with a manual, that's for sure.
Incommando
Although it was kind of hard to find even my '05 Liberty was a 6-speed stick. But it became a 2014 Patriot 4x4. It also has a 6-speed but it is a new for '14 6spd auto. It gets 8 mpg more than the KJ and was great in last years winter mess. It is far from hardcore although it is the best in its class off road...but it replaced my last manual.

87MJTIM
1. The right side of our brains control the left side of our bodies and the left side of the brain controls the right side of our bodies. 2. An automatic requires the right foot to control the gas and brake. The right hand rests on top of the steering wheel. 3. Your left foot rests on the floor. Your left hand hangs out the window. Conclusion: you only need half a brain to drive an automatic. :brows: ;) PS: I tried driving an auto with my left foot on the brake. NOT a good idea. The brake pedal does not go all the way to the floor!
terrawombat
Well since most new manual transmissions are really autos and some new autos are built like manuals the waters are getting very muddy.
jimoshel
I once switched from a auto to a 5 speed manual. Not knowing what I was doing I put it in backwards. One speed forward and 5 speeds backward can be interesting. I've often wondered what would have happened if I had installed it upside down as well?
