88whitemanche Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 What's up guys So this morning I was at the bank and noticed there was a nice ledge to take a picture while flexing...I don't flex often but I just wanted to give it a try...the ledge wasn't steep maybe about 10" high and I don't have a locker(open diffs) When I started to go up the ledge I would give it a good amount of gas and it'll bog then shut off... Turn the truck on again tried 3 more times and it happened again... Is there something I'm missing? Fuel issue? Or something? Any insight is great thanks....
88whitemanche Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 How much gas did you have? After the first time stalling...the second time I stepped on it to the floor and I guess being too much of a stress it shut off....idk it was weird...I know how to ease off the clutch to add a bit more torque but it just cut off....
HughMann Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 he means how much gas did you have in the tank, since the mj tank isnt baffled iirc the pump might have not been pulling gas.

I know my mj will light the empty gas light at 1/4 and below when going around corners so that could be the issue but idk. Is the 88 Carbed or efi?
onlyinajeep726 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 That's probably why you stalled. 1/4 isn't much when tilted/flexed. Fill her up full and try again. You should have different results.

mnkyboy Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I can put a tire around 4' in the air with my fuel light on, I doubt thats his problem. I would say the main issue is probably lack of power/gearing,a front locker would help too. If its TBI its a 2.5l.

I've pulled my manche on car ambulances with short ramps with my little TBI, and it has severely worn piston rings. I doubt it's a power issue.
Dillithium Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I noticed, but a 10'' ledge isn't that much. The ramp comparison was only used because it was a steep climb.
mnkyboy Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 If he can't climb up it, either the tires have to break lose or the engine has to stall. I believe he is also running 32s with stock gearing.
88whitemanche Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 Yeah I have stock gearing and 32s....2.5 squirrel in a box A lunchbox locker for my rear is in my near future...
SW86 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 4 hi isn't a climbing gear. I also say you didn't have the correct gears to pull you up. Just straight lack of power so it stalls. i can ride trails for hours on a quarter tank. I never stall and when flexing around it goes below E.
Eagle Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I assume you drove the front wheels right up into contact with this ledge, then tried to crawl up it from a dead stop? With 32" tires and a 2.5L engine running stock gearing, that's an excellent way to burn out your clutch, or break something. Stalling the engine probably saved you a big repair bill. The factory put a low range in the transfer case for a reason -- try using it.
stoney88mj Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 agreed. I've tried climbing little things with my rubi lj and bogged the motor down badly. grab 4lo and boom I'm up on top with minimal throttle input. I bogged the hell out of the mj trying to play on a snow bank. backed off grabbed 4lo and up she went.
