  1. front clip isnt hard. but I believe the dash is a pain and requires cutting of firewall.
  2. Ok I bought my mj last year and the A/C has never worked. The truck sat for at least 2 years before I purchased it and I haven't driven it much since then since it has a very bad rear main seal leak and as I found out a month ago the drivers seat belt has a lovely rip in it and the po just covered the ripped area with duct and electrical tape....., but what is a jeep without some dodgy safety features? What should be my first steps in getting the A/C working again? How do I tell if it has been converted to R134a? I am guessing just get something like this http://www.amazon.com/RED-TEK-R12a-Refrigerant-Recharge/dp/B00DJDYORU/ref=pd_sim_sbs_auto_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0ER018XRE5RMW1DQ77TJ to start with?
  3. Selling/trading the D44 I picked up because it doesn't fit in to what I want to do with the mj. My plans are now as follows. I am going to start collecting parts over the summer for a lift. I am also going to collect parts for a rear main seal repair and maybe a transmission. I am going to take a class at the local community college which is just basically you renting their auto shop for 5 hours a day 3 days a week because I don't have anywhere to work atm and taking this class a year and a half ago spoiled me on being able to use a lift to work on vehicles, so I am going to do just that. Iirc it is going to be like $250 for the class including shop fee and that isn't bad for basically renting a shop for 1-2 semesters.
  4. Also so many ZJ/WJ's with sketch stereo installs
  5. and on car-part a 8.8 out of an v6 explorer is $150-200 complete
  6. also surprisingly all the xj's at the yard had d35's.
  7. Seriously at the junkyard every xj and the only mj had no front fascia at all and the only one there was siting on the hood in pieces.
  8. Also don't just grab a axle without paying attention like I did. I am currently trying to trade a Isuzu Rodeo D44 with 4.78's and drum brakes for a more suitable axle or a transmission because I put the cart before the horse and got blinded by just getting a d44. But I am 90% sure I can swap the drums to disks on mine but the 4.78 gears are a little to low for what i need. But a ford 9" out of a 70's ford truck or big bronco will bolt right up since the spring perches have less than 1 inch difference in spacing as the mj's.
  9. oh ok because if it was they bell housing would be worth about $400 in the turbo Chrysler market.
  10. is this the same bell housing that you can use to make a chrysler 2.2 turbo a rwd?
  11. Bad body ground somewhere?
  12. I was looking at Car-Part last night and the price diference between a V8 8.8 with 3.55's and the V6 with 3.55's was at least $100. also some bronco's came with 3.50's up front with 3.55's out back from the factory.
  13. You can safely run 3.50's and 3.56's at the same time so 3.54 and 3.55's are fine.
  14. Can these be converted to disks like the wagoneer d44's can? Like this guide using chevy truck disks? http://www.jeeps-offroad.com/forum.php?page=d44-brakes
  15. I was hoping it still had the tail lights as I need one, but I think I am just going to make my own housing and use aftermarket lights. and all the xj's had no front facia's which I need.
  16. Went to the junk yard and got a d44 out of an Isuzu rodeo which is close to the right size to put under the MJ. The only issue is I believe it has 4.78 gearing.
  17. 1990 Jeep Comanche 2.5L 4WD D30/D35 Manual Found in Junkyard in Marion, NC
  18. saved for later.
  19. Western North Carolina.
  20. 1/4 tank... I know my mj will light the empty gas light at 1/4 and below when going around corners so that could be the issue but idk. Is the 88 Carbed or efi?
  21. What's "incredibly expensive"? What state are you in? the ones on ebay that i have seen go for between $70 and $150 per light. I believe there is one right now on ebay that has a buy it now price of $189 for 1 tail light.
  22. he means how much gas did you have in the tank, since the mj tank isnt baffled iirc the pump might have not been pulling gas.
  23. going to also try my hand at making some tail lights since used ones are so expensive. like these: These lights are stop+turn+reverse and are about $35 a piece.
  24. or make your own out of metal and aftermarket lights.
  25. Going to attempt to do a transmission fluid and filter change on the MJ this weekend to see if that fixes my issues before I try and do the rear main seal. Since if the tranny has to come out anyway It would be better to do the rear main then, same for transfer case fluid change since it seems like I can get a complete AW4 + NP231 combo for less than $500 so if the fluid change doesnt fix it Ill have to get a tranny.
