Ronbo
Hello, my name is Ron and I recently purchased my first Comanche. Its a 1992 4x4 long bed with the 4 liter High Output engine and the AX15 5 speed. The truck has 82,000 miles on it and has been in the same family since it was new. the truck is Metallic Hunter Green with Tan interior and a bench seat. The build date was November of 1991, I only add that as I see that question come up from time to time. My plans for the truck are to turn it into a trail rig. I am researching a lift for it and tire packages. I am thinking I will go with a TNT long arm suspension with a spring over in the rear and 35" tires. I currently have a 1992 Wrangler YJ with the same powertrain and I have been a member of a 4 wheel drive club for the last 4 years. I will attempt to post pictures of both my current Jeep and the Comanche because from reading the build threads I know everyone likes to look at the pictures, including me. I would love to hear your thoughts about the truck. Ron :waving:

Comanchepur
. :MJ 1: . Just looking your truck I know is a low millage vehicle. The long bed is more interest because is hard to find in a excellent conditions like yours

Ronbo
MJ Junkie, Thanks for noticing. Jeeper, I know the 92s are rare and a 4x4 even more so but I did not know a long bed was rare, I guess I never thought about that. And thank you for the welcome to the site there should be more pictures today if I can work photo bucket. Ron
Ronbo
I got the truck into the garage and I wanted to do some maintenance items first. I changed the oil, transmission oil, serpentine belt and the air filter. Then I wanted to paint a few things to make them look better such as the wiper arms, front bumper and rear sliding window frame. Then I wanted to change the bench seat and replace it with bucket seats. This is more comfortable and will allow space for a Tuffy locking console which I have on order. I got the seats from my friend Willy, MJ Junkie, who also has a couple of build threads here. The seats are Grey not Tan but they don't clash to bad with the interior. I may get them redone in a color matching material or new seats all together I'm not sure, depends on funds. I will post more on the build as I make more progress. Ronbo
Here is a picture of my current Jeep which I use primarily to wheel with. I also started work on cleaning up a rear bumper that I got from my buddy Willy. Some of you may recognize this from the build thread for his wife's Comanche. He built a new bumper when we bobbed the bed so I was offered this one which I knew to be strong and well built.
Minuit
Hunter green metallic? The only other MJ that's known to be that color from the factory is toxic orange right now. That's a one of a kind vehicle.
Ronbo
Yeah, the more I find out about this truck the more rare it becomes. Unfortunately the paint isn't in that good of shape all the clear coat on the roof and hood is missing. I went by an auto body place and got a quote to have it painted but they wanted a little more than I can afford to spend, I will probably paint it myself. I have never painted a car before but I have read up on it. I am detail oriented so I think I can do a good job, we shall see. Got the rear bumper painted but I have to go back to work tomorrow so it will probably get installed next week when I'm off. I painted it with Krylon Hammered Black and used a self etching primer, should hold up well.
rocks91mj
Great looking truck! I really like the new grey buckets you put in it. Now if you were only closer I WOULD OFFER TO BUY THEM , only so you could get a set that matches your truck. That's just the kind of guy I am, always ready to help out when I can! HA HA !!! Can't wait to see the bumper install ,roll on .
Ronbo
Thanks, if I happen to drive across the country and decide I don't need the seats to get back I will keep you in mind. Ron
shelbyluvv
Please don't cut that truck up! That is a really rare truck. You should find a SWB MJ as a wheeler.
reson46
Please don't cut that truck up! That is a really rare truck. You should find a SWB MJ as a wheeler. It's a Jeep, not a Bugatti. It was made to wheel. Willy
yellaheep
Man, I'm super jealous of that truck! a '92 in Hunter Green....... nearly a unicorn....... It would suck to see it get cut up....... and that interior is the nicest tan interior I've ever seen. Before you get to hacking it up...... please consider selling it to someone who'd like to restore it or trade it with someone having a less rare truck. Could you imagine how gorgeous that truck would be repainted with the decal replicated?
Ronbo
It has run through my mind to restore it but then I wouldn't have a play truck and that's what it was purchased for. I can't afford to have several vehicles and if I could it would just sit outside in the weather. I have a work car that gets most of the miles put on it and a 2500 Silverado for hauling duties. This truck was bought to be a wheeler. I am going to modify it but I will do it right and keep it clean. I don't like driving crappy vehicles and I like my rides to look good and preform without mechanical issues. Trust that I will do a good job with this build. reson46
Nice! What gears did the 8.8 have? How many studs did you destroy when you removed the fender flares? Willy
Ronbo
I haven't bothered to check the gears yet. I think I broke four studs and bent a couple of more.
Ronbo
It was an early Christmas at Ron's house today, my long arm kit came in from TNT Customs. This is the 5.5 inch kit that will allow me to run 35 inch tires with a little trimming on the fenders. The kit is designed to tuck up nice and tight under the frame and not hang down 2 to 3 inches which kind of defeats the purpose of a lift. If the time permits I will start to strip things down soon and then Willy is going to come help me with the install next month when I have weekends off again. Ronbo
Oh by the way, I called Tuffy to ask about the color of the console and they informed me that the wrong console was put in the box. I am shipping mine back and one of the correct color is going to be sent to me. The only issue is they are in the fabrication phase and my new one won't be ready until the end of January. No problem, I think I have plenty to keep me busy for a while. Ron
reson46
Congratulations! Did they send shackles? Willy

SnowManche
Wow. Saw this thing on craigslist and almost picked it up to swap all my stuff into.
