Sweet. Buttery Jesus.    Stop this cruel and unusual punishment! Reveal to us the rest of the truck!

Oh, and i am pretty certain there were A LOT more than 50 made, just sayin. They're rare, but not that rare.

J-Trucks were last made in '87. If this is an '88 there are two possibilities. It actually is very rare and is a true '88, last off the line sort of deal. Or it's left over '87 that was sold in '88 and marked as one to move it. The year is what marks it as "rare" if it truly is an '88, kind of bet it's the other option though.

Want to talk about super rare J-Truck? Go search for the factory extended cab prototype. Saw pics of it on IFSJA from the guy who owns it.

No matter what though very cool (except the fact it doesn't have a brow =P), wish I still had my J10. Though by getting rid of it I was able to get back in an MJ which is more "me". I'll just find another J-Truck someday and make sure it's a '76-'79 J20 this time, no exceptions.

J20? I was here first. I purchased a surplus diesel locomotive from Union Pacific so I could pull one of the engines for a swap into my '77 J20' After getting the engine out and on the ground I realized it was 4 feet longer and 4 tons heavier than the J20' Since I didn't want to get involved in a spring swap, frame stretching deal I dropped the whole idea. Any body want to buy a GP-38-2 2,000 horse power engine for their diesel swap into a MJ?

.

Still got the generator attached? If so I am definitely interested. ;)

.

Shipping would be an issue though. That was the reason I had to leave 4 low-time Caterpillar V-8 diesels with 400V generators on the wharf at Subic Bay,  P.I. - got 'em free  from a buddy after a ship refit, but couldn't afford to get them home!

I think it's fairly evident to all the CC members that ol Jimbo is a pack rat. If it's available I'll take it. I believe in my entire life I only turned something down once, and to this day I'm still crying about it. In 1964 I was in uncle Sam's flying circus stationed at Ft Campbell, Ky. A reserve, or national guard not sure which AF unit from Indiana came down for maneuvers  on their 2 week training deal flying C 124'S. When they left, they left behind one of the spare engines they had brought along. for the A/C. The brass got on the sgt's butt to get it out of the hanger. The sgt called me. Said "get it out of here, it's yours." Gentlemen. I stared at that 12 foot high, 18 cylinder, 1400 HP monstrosity for a week. I could think of no way in hell to get it home, or what I would do with it once I got it there. That's the only thing in my life  I was ever offered free and I turned it down. :dunno:

Welllll, there was an incidence in San Sebastion with a young lady? but lets not go into that.

Nope, that is a custom built rig. The one I was talking about was factory. I'll dig around for the link and see if I can find it, or at least the pics I had.

I am under the assumption, as is the owner, that it is a true 88. Is there any way to verify for sure? A lot of parts, including the grill were swapped from a Grand Wagoneer. Hornbrods illustrations were very interesting and helpful, thanks for posting!

And since everyone loves photos, here is another one! Guess you guys will all have to wait until next week for more photos when I pick it up from the shop. I'm having some work done to it, then I'll start a thread under the "Other Projects" section.

Although the last J-trucks were built in the 1987 calendar year they were offered as 88's as well as the model year began in 1987. Reports that "production ceased in 1987" are accurate but it does not limit the trucks to being in the '87 model year. I can find no accurate numbers between '88 J10 & J20 sales.

I am a firm believer that you can do anything you want with a vehicle that you own. However if that truck is as rare as claimed ( again, I can't confirm or contest that claim) it seems a shame to butcher it up with a CTD conversion. There are many factory CTD configurations that would exceed that J20 as a starting point without needing a major fab swap and they would retain a rare truck if it is indeed rare. Conversely there are other years of J20's that could have formed the base that are not very rare. To most folks any value & interest it had as a rare low production number truck ended as soon as it went under the knife.

EDIT:  Web searching shows that this truck, if it was the one purchased from Mt. Zion, is a J20 body swapped onto a '93 Dodge W250 CTD chassis. It appears that it is only cosmetically a Jeep even if it retained Jeep registration due to the J20 cab having the VIN tag. It was said to have been pretty much a junk J20 purchased out of a field. It was heavily rusted and had some pretty bad wreck damage on the driver's side. It must have undergone some extensive body work if the teasers pics are accurate.

Scroll down for some info & pics after the swap from one post:

Located a pic taken after the body was swapped onto the Dodge:

I noted the incomplete front end and mangled core support. Others who have tried to swap a 6BT into a FSJ have run into issues with having enough room for the intercooler. the 6bt/radiator/intercooler combo is just too long. The only one that I know of that was able to retain the stock jeep sheet metal had to just go without the intercooler to make it work but they still had to fab a core support. The first 2.5 years of the CTD weren't intercooled anyway. The '93 was.

Here is the finished product. They either resolved the intercooler issue or removed it. Hopefully it has some sort of core support under there.
