None... direct bolt-on swap.  '90 was the last year for the vacuum disconnect, so no worries there.

Edit: '90 was not the last year of the CAD, but that doesn't make a difference as far as swap-ability.

precisely ... my current axle in my '00 XJ came from an '89 limited. You could even bolt in a CAD axle or a 2wd beam axle as a direct bolt on swap. Or, one from a  ZJ, or a TJ .... as long as the gearing matches, the suspension are the same on the front.

Except the ZJ and TJ had low pinion front axles. They'll still bolt in, but they aren't the same.

My '91 has one...

The issue you'll face is taking part of a rather rare '92 Comanche to put in a common old XJ... Just kidding. go for it.

My "rare" 92 MJ has an 87 D44 rear and a 97 XJ D30 front.

My other 92 has an 87 D35 rear and 98 TJ D30 front.

Also, although the ZJ and TJ are both low pinion, they are not the same.

The TJ has a shorter pinion shaft than the ZJ.

ZJ and CJ D30 gears are interchangeable. Not TJ's though.

But like said above they will all work in each other.

Just have to watch your drive shaft lengths.

I have a '91 XJ, also has the vacuum disconnect.

I thought '90 was the last year for CAD? :hmm:

I'm sure I'm mistaken, though...

As mentioned though, all years will work.  One more thing to keep in mind that hasn't been mentioned is for anyone who has ABS braking.  If you get an axle from a non-ABS equipped Jeep, you'll have to do some modifications there to retain ABS.  Not sure if ABS was ever used on an MJ, though... :dunno:

I said the suspension was the same, not the axles ... but it's fairly moot anyway.

and For more clarity on this one ...

1993-1996.5 used a special crush sleeve design pinion.

After 1996.5, the ZJ used a TJ style gear set (short pinion) with crush sleeve.

TJ gears will NOT work in a CJ.

CJ gears WILL work in a ZJ (1993-1996.5).

TJ gears WILL work in a ZJ (1996.5-1998)

Not to bee off topic but further too the CAD...My 93 YJ still has it so it might have gone longer in the XJ as well

I have a few odds and ends from a stripped 92 4.0 auto.  That front axle with rotted perches 3.55's, washer bottle, coolant bottle, cut up 4.0 harness, 4.0 engine mounts, front springs, rotted fenders, auto column, ebrake minus the release mech, brake booster, steering box, hood hinges and wiper motor.

How about the rest of the wiring harness?

Where was it cut?

Do you still have the cab and body harness

Try to save as much of the 92 harness as you can.

Makes it real easy to adapt a later 93-98 XJ motor into an MJ.
