87manche
So, I installed the new trackbar last night, and it appears that my shocks are severly limiting my droop. Brake lines and control arms still have another 2-3" to go, this is at 3". Planning on installing my spacers this weekend and going to 4" up front. anybody got any shock recommendations. Cheap is the word here, it's soon to not be my DD, so on road ride really isn't a priority. Right now it's got the skyjacker hydros that came with the used 3" lift I bought, I don't mind them, something like that would be alright. I was just thinking of going monroe or something from the local parts shop, but I'm not sure if they can just order me a shock based on measurements, or even what the measurements should be for that matter. 87manche
nice, Cheap is good. I'm broke. and the heep keeps sucking down maintenance money. I figure the rears aren't such a problem, since they're regular eye to eye, the front ones with stud are the problem.

87manche
I wish, but the yards around here would probably want $20 a shock! I was thinking Yj shocks might be the right length I need. I'm just gonna have to go and get the big book of shock lengths at the parts store and figure out which cheapass monroe will get the job done. jeepdoggydogB
I have 3 inches of lift and coudln't get the YJ shccks to work for the rear. You will need a schock to extend from eye to eye something in the neighborhood of 24or 25 inches. The YJ shock I had only exended to about 22.5 if I recall.
razrwild
I'm getting my shocks from the superlift scratch and dent store on ebay for $10 a shock. Check it out, they've got an "unsure what shock you need" setup which asks the vehicle and how much lift and tells you what shock of theirs you need. Don't remember if they've got the measurements tho http://scratch.superlift.com/ebay/image ... kapp_1.pdf

I have been watching the e-bay store site but have not seen the ones for a MJ yet. Charles

DirtyComanche
If you want half-decent shocks that you can get over the counter anywhere... The monroe catalouge offers ALL their lengths, end styles, and I think even some information on the valving. I found some in there that are 13" travel... Now to see if I can build them into coil-overs.
feerocknok
Yeah, rear shocks for a a Super Duty with 10" of lift or something along those lines have 13" of travel no matter the brand shock you go with. Also, something like 12" of travel for an old fullsize Chevy with 10" of lift. That is, if you need something that long/have the space, and want a cheap shock. Eagle
If you go to Monroe's web site, they used to have the entire catalog on-line, and the back of the catalog had a complete listing of shocks by length and end fittings. It might take awhile to scroll through it, but you would take just as long to scan through the paper catalog, since you basically have to look at EVERY listing until you find what you want. I usually scan for length first, and when I see one in the range I'm looking for then I check the attachments. Or you could look for the attachments and then check the length.
