skerriltj Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Just picked up the rough country 6.5" lift kit for my 89 pioneer. I'm thinking 33X12.50R15LT Dick Cepek Crushers for tires. Anyone have any comments/suggestions?? Also, should I invest in some wheel spacers? The rims are currently stock rims. I will be upgrading to beadlockers eventually though. Thanks!
Eagle Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 You won't run 12-1/2" wide tires on stock rims without spacers. 31x10.50s on factory rims leave VERY little clearance between the sidewalls and the rear springs, and when the rear axle gets at all crossed up the inner sidewall at the top rubs the inner fender well. 12.50s will be an interference fit.
87manche1 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I like skinny tire sizes like 32x10.5. ran 285/75/16s mt for awhile and hated them. Liked the firestone mt good tread wear longer life and threw some mud. Ejection out of the tread is to me essential if it gets packed in What's the point
skerriltj Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 I was thinking of skinnier....10.5 but I think my heart is set on the crushers which only have 31s in 10.5. The reviews seem pretty good and i'm 90% wheeling the mj. Gearing........well not too sure yet. I'm just trying to get things in place and bought. Gearing is the next thing to figure out. Complete newbie here! Anyone have preferences for good wheel spacers?
mnkyboy Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Spidertraxs spacers are good, just make sure you buy something hub centric and anodized. Don't buy cheap spacers no matter how tempting the price is. For the cost of quality spacers you could probably pick up a set of aftermarket steel wheels with a better offset. Darren here on CC had the crushers on an XJ, IIRC he liked them.
skerriltj Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 After more reading and chatting with fellow wheelers i'm thinking maybe it's just as easy to suck it up and buy beadlockers sooner than later that have backspacing. It'll save me buying the spacers. Any thoughts??
mvusse Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I have run 33x12.50R15 tires with ~6.5" lift on 15x8 wheels with 4" backspacing. That combination seems to work well.
dave92cherokee Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 If it's going to be a mostly offroad rig you can always get a set of LTB's. They have 34x10.50-15's that would fit without much trouble, ran them on an old xj with 4.5" lift and only rubbed the front at almost full lock.

gogmorgo Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 What's so bad about lug centric spacers? It works fine for wheels. But yeah, generally cheap ebay stuff in the drivetrain or suspension is unsafe. Also, to the OP, 12.5's may be a bit wide for stock rims, which are 15x7.

I would quantify that reply with this: those spacers are definitely only trash worthy, but trash them in your aluminum trash pile along with the beer cans. Might as well get a couple of recycle bucks for them. Also, the Spidertrax spacers are both hub centric and wheel centric. :thumbsup:

mnkyboy Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Problem is that the lug nuts/stubs job is to hold the wheel on,not support the entire rig. Every time you hit a bump you are sending the impact into the side of the lug studs,this can cause the lug studs or the spacer itself to fail. You will also find cheap spacers are not anodized. Raw aluminum will rot over time weakening the part which can lead to failure.
