Pete M Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 on a whim I sprayed the floors on my rust free truck shell that's in storage. can't hurt, right? a year later the paint is dissolving off the floors and rust is setting in. I hate myself.
HOrnbrod Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 So WD-40 is a paint remover too? Amazing product. Old non-detergent motor oil would have been better on the floors.
TGTgoHARD Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 or linseed oil. When I had a caged ranger desert truck i kept my cage front to back coated in linseed oil. Wipes off to clean bare metal
JeepcoMJ Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Water based. Its the worst possible thing to use for rust prevention. Pb blaster or kroil are way better
Pete M Posted January 22, 2013 Author Posted January 22, 2013 at this point, road salt might have been better.
Pete M Posted January 22, 2013 Author Posted January 22, 2013 it's not what I would call bad now, but there was only a tiny hint of it before and it's now in the seams and under that upper frame support. places that I can't easily reach. I still hate me.
Alexia Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Spraying rust converter would have been better. WD-40 just makes everything worse, but people keep using it.
glundblad Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 at this point, road salt might have been better. Road salt would have been better? Wow, I hear Michigan road salt is worse than Indiana road salt. :laughin:
Incommando Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 WD40 sucks. It draws moisture from the air and rusts everything. Hell, it isn't even worth a a crap at loosening bolts.
sloride Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Rumor has it, or I heard someone say years ago, WD40 was developed by NASA and stands for Water Dissipater formula #40. Haven't used that stuff since I discovered PB Blaster.

Haven't used that stuff since I discovered PB Blaster. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WD-40 "WD-40 is the trademark name of a penetrating oil and water-displacing spray. It was developed in 1953 by Norm Larsen, founder of the Rocket Chemical Company, in San Diego, California. WD-40, abbreviated from the phrase "Water Displacement, 40th formula,"[1] was originally designed to repel water and prevent corrosion,[2] and later was found to have numerous household uses."
mvusse Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 And evidently it doesn't even do the job it was designed to do: repel water and prevent corrosion.
AMCJeepMJ Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 WD40 sucks. It draws moisture from the air and rusts everything. Hell, it isn't even worth a a crap at loosening bolts. It sure is good for removing sticker adhesive off the outside of laptops. Works awesome. I keep a 'travel' size can for just this purpose.
NW Mossback Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Kroil is great! Almost as good as Never-Seez.
Minuit Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Another vote for Kroil here. The stuff is absolutely fantastic.
