Pete M Posted February 1, 2014 Author Posted February 1, 2014 I'm sure it'll have one eventually :D I moved the seat back to the original location now that he's 3 and can reach the pedals (Powerwheels say it's for ages 3+). still haven't been able to find the time to wire in the lights. also,t hebattery is not doing well. seems someone (cough*his grandpa*cough) forgot to plug it in to the trickle charger while I was in michigan and that plus the cold half-killed it. and since it's a Jeep, a breakdown is inevitable (pretend or not). gotta keep up on those fix-it skills :D admit it, you wish you had one of these when you were 3 :D
ComancheKid45 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I had a power wheels YJ when i was young. This thing is awesome Pete. I love the "breakdown" picture. :rotfl2:
codymanche Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 How did u do the front wheels with the harbor freight wheels conversion
Pete M Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 same as the rear, with the plastic pipe as spacers and lock rings to retain the assembly. I'll see if I can get my father to send me a pic of it.
Pete M Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 washers on the inside: set screw lock ring on the outside:
88whitemanche Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Awesome job Pete....how did you manage to have a battery charger for it? My nephew has a similar one that the battery died completely out of it and was wondering a different way to have another battery in there
Pete M Posted June 20, 2014 Author Posted June 20, 2014 I bought a car trickle charger and mounted it inside. there's lots of room under the seat. :D and now the front of the Jeep has some storage space.
Pete M Posted July 29, 2014 Author Posted July 29, 2014 he wanted to "change the oil" after watching me refresh the fluids in the Liberty. :D
HOrnbrod Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 You have to get married Pete and have some of your own.
Pete M Posted July 29, 2014 Author Posted July 29, 2014 got nothing against that plan, but being an uncle is pretty sweet and I'm going to enjoy it for all it's worth. :D later today I hope to find some time to get the lights wired in.
Spectormj Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 2 stroke it give him some horsepower and a rollbar
Pete M Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 the drivetrain and body is all plastic. no gas engines until I can make a steel subframe. in the mean time I've added handles (like the ww2 flatties), a smaller Jeep emblem, and we're going over the benefits of recovery straps. :D
Pete M Posted August 13, 2014 Author Posted August 13, 2014 putting the ol' jeep to work. :D just got done swapping the 19tooth gears for 16tooth units. if my math is right, this should help out with more torque for hill climbs. :dunno: will find out tomorrow when he gets here for a test drive.
HOrnbrod Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Heck yeah! That's like going from 3.07 to 4.10 gears. But if your nephew is a speed freak he ain't going to like it because you killed his top end.
Pete M Posted August 13, 2014 Author Posted August 13, 2014 he has noticed that it goes just a bit slower. hasn't dampened his enthusiasm though. :D so far the Jeep has made it up all of the places that it previously stalled. I wanted to go even deeper to 14 tooth gears but these came out of the dune buggy I already had (but he hasn't seen yet). can't beat free! later on I'll swap the 19s into the buggy and then it'll be even faster.
Pete M Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 forgot to add this image. the plastic hub was never intended to endure a crushing bandclamp around it and the little fingers kept bending, so I've strengthened it inside with a bit of pipe from my plumbing box.
CommaComanche Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 This is awesome. I have a nephew on the way. At the rate I get projects done I think it is time for me to pick one of these up and start modding :) The hardest part is going to be convincing my sister that its "safe"
Pete M Posted September 16, 2014 Author Posted September 16, 2014 you can easily lock out high speed and reverse with a single screw and then bring them into play later once they've mastered driving around at 2.5 mph. and they are impossible to tip by a small child. they don't have the power to exceed any tipping point and they weigh a surprising amount for a chunk of plastic. on a side note, he took his brother for a spin yesterday. . :MJ 1: . I'm told photos are on their way.
HOrnbrod Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 That's very cool Pete. Those boys will remember tooling around the GA woods in their personal Jeep the rest of their lives.
Pete M Posted September 20, 2014 Author Posted September 20, 2014 yesh, i'm totally envious. :D but I don't want Alec feeling left out sooo... I picked this up the other day. It's an older model but is in better shape than Zayne's was. It's even got doors and push button shifting! fancy!
onlyinajeep726 Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Well this is abosuletly awesome!! But from reading all of this it sounds to me like youre at this point: I don't know how I missed this, but OMG YES! This is so awesome.
