The day I turned 18 the first thing I did that morning was walk into the post office and sign up for selective service. The next thing I did was enlist in the Marine Corps. I have been a Marine for almost 20 years now. I agree whole heartedly with this father. I have a 13 year old son. He is a handful right now. That is the nature of the beast with teens and puberty. Kids today have some idea that the are entitled to this or that. I see it every single day. I had to jump a kids @$$ last night for disrespecting one of his NCOs. He felt the senior Marine had to earn his respect. The only thing that out burst got him was a few hours of cleaning the heads and swabbing the decks in the battalion CP. I don't owe anyone a damn thing. I got to where I am with my own hard work. I grew up dirt poor in a small farm town in Pennsylvania. I know what it is to have to work for something and then enjoy the fruits of your labor. I blame parents for their kids. Not the kids themselves. No reason to let everyone on the planet take a peek into the personal lives of this family. Also very little reason to shoot up the laptop - I would have take it for myself or given it to a charitable organization so that someone less fortunate could use it. The kid is a snob, no doubt, but I feel that the arrogance of this man and the fact that he hid behind a camera to get his message across says a lot about what kind of parenting (or lack thereof) is going on. Not the kids themselves. actually I'm 26. i didnt watch all of the video. i mainly jumped around until i saw the shooting start. i could care less what the deal was, my first post still stands. i mean he's bitching about how his daughter posted online about family stuff. so what does he go and do. post online even more about it. thats my point. don't take the time to make a video of you taking out your anger about something. go talk to whoever it is about it for eight minutes instead and see if you still want to shoot something. i doubt you will but hey, lets all be ignorant on youtube...... He couldve kept things private, Talked to his daughter. And sold the laptop and bought himself something nice instead of wasting money. Pretty stupid move to "teach" your daughter a lesson. JeepcoMJ Posted February 19, 2012 Share Posted February 19, 2012 I don't see how keeping things private would have helped. they'd been through it once before, she ignored the lesson and did it again. the audacity of a kid to b*@$£ and moan at their parent's "mistreatment" of them is starting to get ridiculous. I had a job when I was 15. before that, I had chores that would make anyone but a farmer cringe. they needed to be done, and I had to earn my keep. I've worked no less than 30 hours a week at my actual job through the last two years of school, plus swim team year round, which was about 4 hours/day every weekday, plus weekend meet. When I was 18 it went to 70-80 between 3 jobs when I wasn't in classes. since then, there have even been a handful of times where I put in over 100 hours a week. it wasn't fun, I didn't enjoy it, but I earned my keep. Good on him to shoot the laptop. I'm pretty sure that I would have gone quite a bit further and been using quarter sticks or something of that nature. going public and embarassing her is definitely a "sad" way to go about it, but I can't remember a time that I've been embarassed and haven't learned from it. maybe it was exactly what she needs.
