Zenobian_84
Posts about tools are few and far between. I like tools as much as the next guy, but sometimes I wish I had a fancy setup that could hold my MJ, J10(want one) and Firebird(want this too) and a copious amount of tools to work on them. All that with of course a nice flat screen TV and a mini-fridge. Anybody out there have the ultimate garage setup in mind? IE: If you could make the perfect garage/man cave to work on your Jeeps / other vehicles, what would it include? --------- On a similar note, anybody got a good recommendation on Torx Bit sets? I am serverly lacking them in my garage and can't seem to find a good deal most places I'm looking. :redX:

86customanche
A buddy of mine just finished building a garage for his plumbing company and it's sweet. Something like 30' x 60' with a 14' tall garage door and soon to be a lift or two. I wish it was on my property is all I have to say. The only thing he needs is a TV and that's probably next on the list
mvusse
Don't know when I get to build it (originally planned for last year, but that didn't happen) I will be 24x40 with 12' ceilings. 16x8 door on the alley behind my house opening into a 24x24 with a 4' wide, 8' high catwalk around three sides for storage. Then a 9x8 door on the alley alongside my house opening into a 16x24 partition with a two post lift, workbench and all my tools. Reason for two partitions is so I have to only heat part of it when working on a vehicle in the winter. Thought of in-floor radiant heat, but decided against it. Probably going with baseboard heat and a ceiling fan or two.
Comanche County
This is important, more than most mortal men realize. I don't want to post my ideas prematurely off the cuff as this is serious business. I will come back to this man-cave issue after fasting and meditation. cody4359
Probably going with baseboard heat and a ceiling fan or two. why not a wood stove? seems like a large area, concrete floors, and baseboards would take forever to get a little heat, not to mention the eletricity bill
Blue88Comanche
I have a 16x24 patio, and the small concrete slab in front of the 6x12 shed. mostly hand tools, few power tools, 2 jacks, 2 jack stands, 8 rims.... and natural heating and cooling (I can adjust the thermostat unfortunately), no shade. in other words, i work in the back yard. My Uncle on the other hand has a 2 car garage with 10 or 12 foot ceiling... and climate control.. I have my CJ-5 in his garage with his 300ZX

terrawombat
When I (finally) close on a house, the first thing I will be doing is putting up a shop. It definitely won't be my "dream" shop by any stretch, but something that will get me by for the next several years. One thing it will have is a crapper as my old shop did not have one and when you gotta go...well, you gotta go...

dasbulliwagen
Minimum of 24x30, but preferably 30x40, heavilly insulated for easy heating and cooling. 5 horse 60 gal air compressor (already have), 2 post lift, Mig welder, plasma cutter, press, brake, shear, tubing bender, notcher, decent stereo, fridge, heavy duty benches, cabinnetry... etc. I also have a bunch of woodworking stuff and would have a corner reserved for all of it. Basically the same as what everyone else wants. Ive been looking at steel building prices, and trying to figure out how we can swing it. I live on a sloped lot so I'm really afraid of what the grading will cost. That and local code says there needs to be a 10ft buffer area between any permanant structure and the property. line. That seems like a lot when you live in the city. I have a slightly larger than normal lot for where I live, but I'm also on a corner so I also have to deal with city road right of way too. alleydog
I built a new garage -shop in 05. Its 30x40. Its nice to have that extra 6 ft. in front of your truck, gives you room to roll a cherry picker around, especially a full size truck , or if you have a snow plow on. I did the floor heat, and really like it. I had to get a variance from the city, and my neighbors had to ok it, for a 2 ft setback from the property line. I have a 10.5 ft. ceiling height, so I can't easily put a lift in, I miss that.

Jeep Sarge
This is mine and my father-in-laws man cave we started building it last July, seriously we put the shovel in the ground and the next week got orders to deploy again he continued with the building while I was training, walked in it ONE time after it was built before I loaded the plane. Needless to say I am dying to get back. I have had 15+ jeeps and various other stuff and done every bit of work either outside or in my 2car garage.Until now 40X60 two roll up, one walk threw and one TWO POST LIFT! airspeed
This gave me an excuse to clean up my workbench a little bit. How much can you tell about a person from looking at his workbench?
Zenobian_84
This gave me an excuse to clean up my workbench a little bit. How much can you tell about a person from looking at his workbench? That, A. You definitely know what you're doing when you get to working on a vehicle. And, B. If that blue triangle on the inner chest lid represents what I believe it represents, then you have quality taste in video games. :dunno:
