Weren't the Street Comanches only in '87? It should have a little plaque on the gloxe box lid. Also, not the right rear bumper or grill. Hmm... I don't know about that one... still neat to look at and clean! I'd motorboat that.

I've had it looked at and it's in good to better than good condition.....very clean and runs well.

 

It is not what he thinks it is.......could it be an Eliminator? or a homebrew Eliminator?

 

 

Anyway...what might this be worth converted to 4X4? Or is it worth more as is?

It is at this point that I would please ask that you find another truck.

Why? To leave it as is just simply convert to 4x4.........?

 

A truck like that should be vacuum sealed as is. It's a time capsule and a piece of MJ history that should go on unmolested. Even just thinking about converting such a relic to 4x4 suggests that you might not be ready to own something so different.

 

Just my opinion. Different strokes for different folks.

Agree 100%. If you were to convert this jewel to 4WD I'd have to seek you out and take you out. If I'm not able to, I'll ask Rob for assistance. :D Only kidding - not a good idea mate. Where is it? I'll buy it to prevent this sacrilege.

It's a matter of practicality. Here in the mountains there are places you just can't go without 4x4. Steep gravel driveways and icy/snowy roads. Not every 4X gets all jacked up. 4Xs here sell, 2Xs don't, just that simple.....or at least they sell slow and cheap. Subaru is popular here and the clearance is not that much more than that truck.

 

As for the truck-

 

I had a family member look at it today, it's nice and clean but the ground effects have wear and it has 258K miles......he's nearly begging someone to take it. We may consider an offer but it will cost me to fetch it.

 

Yeah I think I can get 2K for it as is, maybe more. 4X and I'll get $3500 easily.

Ignoring the historical and emotional aspects of a 4wd street MJ, am I the only one who thinks keeping it at its current ride height and installing a 242 case would be awesome? By doing that, the only permanent scaring the truck would get is a hole cut in the floor for the shifter. All of the original parts (which may be near the end of their lives at 250k miles) could be stored away and reinstalled later.

 

I think a low slung, road gripping MJ would be a total blast to drive on dry/wet/snowy curved mountain roads.

Now I have never completed the 4wd swap, but I thought you have to drill 4 holes for the linkage plate to bolt to the side of the tunnel?

 

You do, but the way you worded it implied that you would need to actually cut a hole big enough for a shifter, not spend 20 seconds with a drill bit. :dunno:

So, you're clearly not from anywhere near Florida and you need a 4x4 vehicle. Why even bother looking at a 2WD MJ with a ground effects kit when there are plenty of 4WD MJ's that can be had with less miles and for a cheaper price?

 

 

I'm outside of Knoxville, the truck is in FL where I spent the first 40 years of my life and I have family there.

 

You haven't looked round TN for a truck lately...LOL

 

The hilljacks here tear up everything they own or get their hands on. Don't get me started on the jacket-up wheel well cut no bumper dented fender camo crap either.........LOL.......or no LOL.....errrrrr!
