Automan2164 Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 As some of you might have guessed, there has been a CC spammer breach. The sign in procedure that CC has was working great for keeping out the rif-raf, and Pete and I were just approving everyone wanting to get in on an individual basis. This weekend, the walls came crashing down. Somehow, the spammers figured out how to bypass our filters, and have gotten to the approval part of the process. We went from 2 or so new members a day, to what seems like 20+. We are trying to filter out the good from the bad, and let the good guys in, but Pete's been comparing suspicious emails/users to spammer registries for each case. As you can imagine, this is a tedious process. Keep with us, and please flag any posts that seem like spam. We'll take care of the rest. Rob L. :cheers:

It was has been so nice for the last few months. one of the few plusses that came out of that ill-fated software update was a new and improved sign-in puzzle. but it would appear that they forces of evil have overcome it and now it's back to the same ol' same ol'. :fs1: until we get a new antispammer program again. :D the war rages on...

"Click here for Viagra" "Make money for free" "free Ipod" "Hello I from Nigeria, I am prince, you have money owed to you, send me lots of money and I send you 5 times that back." that is the kind of spammer that is a threat to your beloved forum. also "click here for sexy singles in your area" <--- that one always gets me :shake: :doh:
jpnjim Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Some of the other smaller forums have an introduction forum, that you have to post in before receiving full posting privileges from a moderator. I don't even know if that would be possible with the forum software we use, or if you expect more 'attacks', but it would keep the riff raff to a single forum, where we could taunt and ridicule them. :peek: :thwak: while keeping them out of the 'real deal' forums.

deziped Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Somehow on Wednsday the spammers and a virus got through my blockers and wiped out my drive to the point its missing criticl files. In other words it can't find the operating system. It somehow also got into my internal recovery drive and put a hex on it. Damn I wished I had bought some external backup storage, lost all my pics for past several years. So I've parked the HP and took the old Acer back-up off the shelf until I get a new $49 hard drive from Costco.
